I received my ultimate set from Amazon today, and yes these idiots sent it from US to NZ in that shitty plastic bag. The hinges on the trap a ripped one side is nearly fully torn, and that are various dents otherwise the discs and slips are intact.
I've sent off an email to Jeff because Ive been down this road before with the initial 4K release where my slips were damaged.

Back then the executive relations team replaced the those and made some vague promises to fix the shipping. My recent email points out that nothing has changed and it seems more important to Jeff to get that boat out of the dock than fix any Amazon issues..

Happy to report I received my order from Amazon US all the way to Japan! Can’t tell why but it was in a solid cardbox and not some shitty bag like many dudes here. All slipcovers came in with as well as all the correct discs
I do consider myself lucky for that !

All the slipcovers seem to have those scuffs, bottom edge in particular. From what people have said on here and various pics I've seen of the set, every box seems to have the same wear to the slips in almost the exact same place.

Have yet to dig into the contents of the set, I just popped the first one in to see how it looked in DV and I thought it looked great. Really fine grain, everything's been tightened up a bit, similar to the kind of improvements we got with the Labyrinth and Karate Kid sets. Didn't detect any black crush or softness to the image, nothing that wasn't already inherent to the source, anyway. It looks fantastic.

I've been lagging behind on this new release... Is the U.K. set inferior to the U.S. one?

People on Amazon seem to be saying that it is, but you can't always trust folk on there.

Reports are saying yes, the UK set is inferior as it's more expensive than the US/CA set, doesn't have the green lights, slipcovers or digital copies. Definitely sounds inferior.

Unfortunately this is the expected behaviour of a global company that has become almost a monopoly. The reason they don't change is because there's no reason to, they know people will (for the most part) still buy from them.
What WOULD cause them to sit right up and take notice is a sudden drop off in their sales worldwide if MILLIONS of people claimed inferior shipping as the reason.
One or two thousand people complaining are like a few scurrying mice under an elephant and just as easy to ignore. Sad, but that's the reality of unchecked capitalism taken to a maximum extreme.

The only thing I can add to this HBO/PPV debate is I had a vhs tape of GB1 recorded off tv, either HBO or one of them, and when Venkman goes “the flowers are still standing” the tape was messed up and would stop and start rewinding unless I fast forwarded to after they trap Slimer. To this day when I watch the film I feel that surge of thinking the tape’s going to get messed up but then I feel such excitement watching that whole scene in full.

What’s funny is I did own a proper VHS at some point in the 90s that took over, then the DVD, etc., but that feeling still lingers. God I love this film.

Finished Afterlife.
Absolutely loved it. It was great! Definitely worthy of the Ghostbusters name!

My only complaint is:
[Show spoiler]I wish there was a little more with Janine. Yes, I know the deleted scene and the end credits scene. Just feel like she should have been there a little more.

Question:
[Show spoiler]who is/was Egon's wife? Any theories out there?

I went in to the movie nearly blind. Saw only the original teaser and one other maybe 30 second one, where Paul asks Stranger Things who his grandfather is.

How does everyone else feel about Afterlife?

?
[Show spoiler]It is hard to guess because she could have been born before GB1 or between GB1 and GB2. This is based on the assumption the daughter is between 32-37 or older. Her children should be between 14-16

There was just no other characters introduced between the two movies that indicate a strong possibility. Though I read the popular theory is Janine. You would also have to assume Janine and Louis didn't stay together after GB2. The only way it works is if Egon and her got together between GB1 and GB2. Though her comment about motherhood in GB2 does indicate she never got pregnant before.

She
[Show spoiler]also seemed to know her mother. Plus her and Janine have screen time together and nothing was said, and only were just introduced.
She hated Egon and scientists but didn't really seem to hate her mother. Granted, she didn't say much about her...
Her son is 15 and daughter is 12.

The disc content is exactly the same. The downside of the UK set it that it does not have the lights inside the box, nice slips and its overpriced.

That HBO catalog reminded me of the way the concept of "theatrical windows" has evolved over the years. Even before the pandemic, it had gotten down to about 7 or 8 months between theatrical release and a premiere on HBO (and right now you can watch Nightmare Alley on there, just over two months after release and before its disc or digital rental release).

But both Ghostbusters and Gremlins opened on the same day in 1984, both got wide theatrical re-releases in 1985, and both didn't (officially) show up on cable until summer of 1986.

Hey all, just trying to get the lay of the land of what's going on with the big box. Ordered mine January 2 but still no movement, anyone who ordered after me get theirs already? I read something about disc replacements - there errors or was that because they got duplicate discs?

My second copy shipped from Amazon. Not sure why they split my order as the reason I ordered two was to get at least ONE undamaged.
Let's see what happens this time.
Freaking idiots...

I love hearing stuff like that, as I have similar memories from movies taped off the TV: our recording of Return of the Jedi started at the line "We're starting our approach" because we were late starting it, the tracking on Tremors would get lousy during a number of scenes, Superman II had a big chunk of the ending cut out because we forgot to "unpause" the VCR after the last commercial break, etc.

Good times, man.
