I can't remember where I first read about this idea, but someone on some forum or something I was reading suggested paying a little more for the the gift wrapping option when ordering expensive fragile things from Amazon if you are concerned about it arriving in good condition. I thought this was a great idea, and I have done it twice now. It has worked out well both times.

The first time I did this was with the Criterion 4K release of Citizen Kane, which I knew would never arrive in good shape given all my earlier experiences with ordering Criterion releases in cardboard packaging from Amazon. It cost me another $5, but it arrived in perfect condition, and as an added bonus you also wind up with a pretty nice little gift bag that you can reuse later.

What they do is put the item in the gift bag, and then package that in an appropriately sized box. The bag feels like it is made out of some sort of semi-rigid cloth, and it has a pull string/ribbon cinching type closure on the top. Having it inside a box instead of just tossed into a plastic bag or something is already a massive improvement, but the bag is also rigid enough that the extra material sticking out all around the edges of the item offers some decent cushioning so that it isn't just bouncing around inside the box getting banged up either.

I'm happy enough with how my first two times of doing this turned out so I will definitely be using this trick in the future whenever ordering fragile and/or expensive things from Amazon.

Paramount did the distribution but since the House of Mouse owns nearly everything now they could have been in charge of the authoring and mastering while Paramount did the pressings. Just snarky speculation on my part.

Allegedly Avengers Endgame looks much better than the UHD release on Kaleidescape since it is over 100GBs. Evidently they have various titles which have more robust encodes.

Course that service is still priced beyond what most of us plebs consider reasonable but they do offer a quality platform and files.

Back to Ghostbusters, my set arrived from DD today in good condition although the lights a rather fickle and have only worked once. My GB1 4K disc has small visible scratch so I need to keep an eye on that during playback otherwise I will have to contact Sony for a replacement.

All the slipcovers have some blemishes, scuffs in one area, on them which is a bit of a shame since they are actually quite nice. The book is very cool to have, although the top of the cover is a bit scuffed but cest la vie.

The underlying HDR streams appear to be the same grading and basic MediaInfo stats show that both the original encode and the new encode supposedly have the same HDR attributes.

The thing that sucks when a new 4k release happens is that everyone talks about the packaging and if they got their order or not for two weeks or something and very few actually talk about the image quality which is all I want more info on.

After watching the new GB 4K disc, the contrast is way overblown. But i think that's due in part, to my tv being a Samsung. It just doesn't seem to process DolbyVision very well. Had similar issues with the Disney+ versions of the Star Wars movies. It did look a lot clearer but in spots where there were lights overhead or nearby, the brightness was off the charts. Otherwise it looked very good.

Your Samsung is only showing the HDR10 layer, no DV on Sammy displays.
Comments so far say the compression is better on this disc due to a BD-100, vs a BD-66 on prior release. So I dunno what's going on there.

My TCL 5 series made it look like there was some black crush going on. Also seemed softer than the previous 4k.
Not sure if it's my tv or the way it actually is though.

It appears they accepted an offer for the item and didn't get $400 since the price was crossed out

Well I received my copy yesterday. All the way from Amazon US to the UK. I was expecting it to turn up in the Amazon bubble mailer and I was absolutely shocked (but not surprised) to see it had been packed in a plastic bag!!! Yes, a thin plastic bag! Amazingly it was in almost mint condition which completely blew my mind. The fact that Amazon would pack a $100 collectible box set and send it to the UK in a plastic bag just shows they really don’t care at all. Unfortunately Amazon is pretty much one of the only options for us folks in the UK.

Oh. I was trying to give you the benefit of the doubt instead of engaging in conspiracy theory bunkum, but you opted for the latter. Disnee had nothing to do with the Indy UHDs. Paramount aren’t normally so tight-fisted when it comes to 100GB discs but I’m thinking it may have been a toss-up between quality and pragmatism, that getting the replication capacity for a multi-disc set was a bit tricky at that point so they went with the quicker option. I mean, the Star Trek 1-4 set isn’t on UHD100s either, did Disnee do those too? Nah.

As for the allegedly Avengers, all I keep hearing is numbers parroted over and over and over. I’ve yet to see a comment from someone whose eyes I trust (or anyone who’s actually seen it, even) and has done a direct comparison between the disc and Kaleidescape encodes. With modern digital toss then returns rapidly diminish w/ref to bitrate, while grainy content like GB needs more help (and encoding skill) to look as transparent as it can.

Anyone else feel like the original 2.0 audio is kind of flat and a bit weird? I was bitstreaming and it sent it as DTS-HD MA 2.0, but wouldn't let me apply any Dolby Surround processing and it kind of sounded a bit like multichannel stereo. Dialogue was coming out of all three front channels and the surround channels seemed mostly focused only on the left surround. The 5.1 and Atmos sounded fine, but the 2.0 just sounded off.

Mine I thought was broke until I figured out that you just put finger in front of sensor a few seconds then pull away.

My set is out for delivery
I'm video taping the driver handing it to me, me bringing it in, me opening it.
I am not getting screwed on another damaged item!

In case anyone isn't aware, those lights are activated by a light sensor. They won't come on if light doesn't hit that sensor. You leave that box open in a dark room and they'll come on as soon as you turn the lights on.

This

Well mine arrived today in the land of cheese & wooden clogs from Amazon.com in pretty much a plastic bag.
They couldn't even be bothered with a box this time.
There's damage ofcourse, but I thought there would have been more damage to the exterior.

Funny thing is that the inside was also damaged, and that was BEFORE it was shipped, because no way a bump could have destroyed the inside.

It's crap anyway, a gimmick and I'll probably put it on the pile of special packaged boxsets.

My order is arriving today. The green bar is near Out for delivery.and Package arrived at a carrier facility..So I don't know the condtion yet or how it was packaged.

In retrospect, maybe I should of done the gift wrapping option.I used a $200 gift card so a extra $5 bucks wouldn't of mattered.I even thought about contacting Amazon before it shipped about getting it delivered in a box even for a extra charge or changing it to a gift packaging.I ended up not doing it since a few people on the forum mentioned they probably wouldn't do it.

In the future with Amazon, for a larger item or something collectors like,I might go with the gift wrapping for extra protection.

With that said,as i mentioned in my previous poast, this is actually coming shipped wit my Stargirl Season 2 Blu Ray(the release date is today). So I do wonder if the package will be different(not a bag) since it's more then one item shipping together?

I'm thinking both in a bag. Since it's had a 4# boxset rolling over it for the full duration of the trip from Amazon to you, your Stargirl will probably be smashed too. Good luck.
