Finally made time to watch the “editor’s cut” of the first movie that was included with the box set from earlier this year and I really enjoyed it! It was so cool seeing some alternate and deleted scenes, as well as seeing / hearing different takes for existing scenes.

Lack of music was so weird lol it really makes you appreciate how much an impact the musical score has on a movie (which I’ve always appreciated, the majority of my music collection is film scores).

This kind of thing makes for a good little curio if only to get a glimpse at the creative process, how some takes or lines seem so much worse (IMO) than what ended up in the film. And that’s not simply because we’re used to the final product being the final product so any deviation seems strange, it’s because the characters aren’t there, instead I’m watching an actor tumble out a few lines of dialogue. This is especially true if you watch the raw dailies of whatever scene, even performers as gifted as these seem only able to turn it on for a few seconds out of a whole reel but when they do it’s magic.

I still need to go through my set. I was so depressed about the audio snafu, and the damage to the box, that I shunted it away like an unwanted child.

FYI:

https://www.amazon.it/gp/product/B0BJDS7ZPC

Not sure if this set will contain the new 4K discs for parts 1 and 2.

It's 100% a reissue of standard discs and I'm betting real money on it.

Yup, the covers give it away. There's also a french set, but again it's the old discs.

Neither of these are released directly by Sony (italian one is Eagle and french is ESC), so you would think they could bypass the ultimate set exclusivity and do standalone release but apparently not.

Ugh, so is Sony doing the same crap that WB is doing and removing the digital codes from later pressings?

I just ordered the first GB on 4K (I know I'm very late to the party on this one ) and the pic on Amazon for my order only lists a 4K and Blu at the top of the cover. I know it's only a digital copy but sheesh that's just petty of these studios.

Edit: Also, did I order an inferior version of GB? I hear the one included in that impossible-to-find box set is better and the original 4K is a mess. Should I cancel my Amazon order then?

Thanks

I wouldn't say it's a mess, its harsh looking granted and the Dolby Vision layer on the newer disc from the boxset does help but the underlying transfer is still the same.

Damn. Is it that bad? This site gave it a good review, and I picked it up a couple of weeks ago based on that.

Its in no way bad its just harsh (as in the grain is very visible) but its all subjective, what will be no issue for some will be unwatchable for others.

The newer disc with DV is definitely the best experience but until it gets a wide release that won't really be an option for many looking to purchase now.

I’m confused isn’t the contrast just as bad on the Dolby vision versions of ghostbusters 1 and 2?

Ah, crap I bought both of those two days ago. What's wrong with Labyrinth??

I have the Blu digibook from a few years ago of Labyrinth and the Remastered in 4K double pack of GB 1&2. Should I just stick with those?

I'm seriously considering canceling my orders now.

Ugh! I think I'm gonna cancel both of these. Man, can't these studios just do 4K right? It seems like every single release from most studios have horrible PQ/AQ issues that could've been fixed (probably) pretty easily.

Sorry for the rant but I'm just so damned frustrated with all this.

Just happened to catch this thread whilst actually watching the move (old disc).

Looks pretty great. So long as you don’t mind grain.
