It's a movie from 1984, so, of course, it will have lots of grain. And I definitely want it to be visible. I'd be pissed if it was DNR-ed.

I'm fine with grain, in fact I'd prefer it if there weren't a better transfer out there, maybe ready to be released again (I mean, this IS Sony). I don't mind waiting but I thought the Blu ray edition of GB was good enough.

I'll return and wait.

What happened to this thread. Both the HDR10 and DV Ghostbusters releases look phenomenal. How can people be getting the opposite impression?

Returning either 4K for "bad picture quality" is... not something that makes sense, to be polite.

Welp, I wasn't gonna but I opened my GB 4K and popped it in and it was actually a pretty good upgrade to the Blu. It's not the best thing since sliced bread but it kinda surprised me with how filmic it looked and even the audio was quite the noticeable upgrade.

This 4K IS worth your time and money if you can't get the box set disc.

May be referring to how these were advertised as adding the original audio track s (which caused many like myself to purchase), only for them to be downmixes of remixed tracks.

I've got this ordered. I really wanted the new 4K with Dolby Vision, but it can't be helped. Probably pretty expensive now...

I bought the original 4K HDR10 release a couple of weeks ago. Is the difference dramatic?

If it had the OG audio perhaps it'd have been worth it. The bonus disc is why I still have it at this point. It takes up so much space. I do like the slips.

Not downmixes. But they’ve been mastered with the phase reversed, so if you engage surround decoding (as you should with an LCRS-matrixed 2.0 surround track) then the dialogue will come from the rear and the rear channel will come through the front centre! Total balls-up, and what makes it worse is that the 2.0 tracks on the re-remastered 35th anniversary Blus (issued in a steelbook) are fine. Unfortunately Sony are having a few audio issues lately so this wasn’t a one-off, and not just them as Paramount are managing a few snafus of their own, like the similarly reversed 5.1 track on EfLA and the reversed rear channels on PT&A.

Thankfully the GB UHDs in the ghost trap set now include the 5.1 mixes which are extremely faithful, as are the Atmos remixes, so it’s not the worst case scenario unlike some films which have entirely revisionist audio and no kind of OG or older legacy remix. Still doesn’t excuse such incompetence, but sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good!

These audio problems are starting to pile up though, it seems QC isn’t just a dying art, it’s dead as a f*cking dodo.

Apparently there's a big difference, which makes it lame that the newest UHD was a limited run...

Do the new BDs included with the latest GB set have incorrectly mixed 2.0 audio as well or is it just the UHDs?

Yes, the included BDs have good 2.0 tracks. Only the UHDs have the messed up ones.

I guess the 4K no longer includes Digital.

Guess I’m gonna pass, if I’m gonna double dip I need to get the digital same reason didn’t buy Godzilla 4K last year.

I have the HD digital for these titles already, and was hoping to upgrade. I upgraded several digital titles this year.

Oh well, I’ve been predicting this to be the new trend with digital.

I’m happy that I got the digital code for all my BF movies this year.

You could always buy the digital version separately if you absolutely need a digital copy.

True but I love the deal of paying $10 and getting the disc and code.

It's not the end of the world.

I only get excited upgrading at the $10 and below price.

Those Universal titles that went below $8 this year was a great way to upgrade and get the disc.

Missed that $2.99 deal for The Commuter 4K. Most of the posts on here hated the film but I like almost all of the Liam Neeson action flicks.

How bad is both the Dolby vision and hdr when it comes to brightness for both this and ghostbusters 2 I don’t remember if I asked you or not sorry if I did.

Eh, one person's controversial is another's so what. I will not make any excuses for what they did (I actually watched them with the 2.0 audio on my TV and didn't notice anything wrong, lol) but there are other releases that have made me a lot angrier than this. And as far as this set goes I think I'm more annoyed about the weird modern master they're passing off as the original TV version!
