Ghostbusters 4K UHD (1984)

Sony puts out great 4Ks, but their release strategies continue to be baffling, with many first time 4K releases being steelbook or box set exclusives. Not to mention all the DV steelbook exclusive reissues. All that ends up doing is ensuring that the older HDR10 version remains the dominant one.

I held the trigger on buying it for the past few days since I was thinking I maybe could find something else to add to the order. It said there were more than 10 copies available yesterday but now it's apparently sold out (for now). I finally ordered it and also got a July date. :/

By the way, this French set is 4K only so you might want to hang on to your blu rays if you want the extras.

The french set has the new discs for Ghosbusters I and II, yes.

But remember it's just the 4K discs for the four movies. No extras.

Another common Sony-ism, for most multi movie 4K sets. And this is a two movie set so this doesn't apply, but they also have stacked discs if three or more movies.

What? It's not a two movie set, it's four.

We are talking about a french UHD set that has all Ghostbusters movies in 4K minus the 2016 one. 4 discs. We are talking about it because currently it's the only way to get the new discs without getting the Trap.

My bad. It is cool that the French four movie set does not have stacked discs. Sony often can't seem to give us in North America multi movie releases with flippers.

The stacking of discs seems to be a US only thing, UK and Euro releases in regular cases always use swing trays and are far less prone to outgassing in my experience (main reason I replaced my US copy of The Abyss with the Italian release)

I haven't looked through this entire thread, but is anyone aware of any differences between the Atmos tracks on the 2016 & 2022 UHD releases? I was adding the commentary from the 2016 disc to the 2022 disc (thanks, Sony, for removing that!), and I noticed that the Atmos tracks are not identical (2016 has a higher bitrate). The video tracks have the same length (down to the millisecond) and are in sync, between the releases.

2016 UHD disc

I did extract the channels from the 2 tracks, and this was returned, for each:

2016 UHD disc
Original audio track, L+R+C+BL+BR+SL+SR: max 24 bits, average 20 bits.
Original audio track, LFE: constant bit depth of 20 bits.

2022 UHD disc
Original audio track, L+R+BL+BR+SL+SR: max 24 bits, average 20 bits.
Original audio track, C: constant bit depth of 21 bits.
Original audio track, LFE: constant bit depth of 20 bits.

They didn't change from 24-bit to 16-bit, or anything like that, so I'm wondering if the track was remixed or re-configured somehow...
