But now going from BD to UHD BD the source transfer, usually a 2K or 4K film scan, is exactly the same (except for the unnecessary HDR pass). What changes is the output format, not the source.... To me this UHD format doesn't make a lot of sense for 35mm catalog titles, unless that high-quality transfer/master is exclusive to UHD BD but I don't think that will ever happen... Here is a much better comparison showing the difference in grain definition between HD and UHD. That Ghostbusters comparison just looks like it's comparing two BDs. |

Rarely does the movie look like real 4k (tho Ghostbusters 2 does at times). But keep in mind, this scene in the movie is the most aweful looking scene, nothing can magically make this particular scene look good. |

That screenshot looks many times more like I would guess. The 4k has much more detail than the HD. So this proves real 4k can greatly improve the detail in these older films for me.
Thank you Mike for the quality comparison! |

either way, this proves that not every scene in a movie will see a big bump in sharpness or resolution. the 1st screen shot had almost no difference at all besides noise/grain but the 2nd is night and day. A good example is the martian, there are some scenes that look much sharper and other scenes look unchanged. |
