Spun this disc today as the first 4K content watched on my new UHD player. Even without a 4K TV, the colors are much more lifelike than the Blu-ray!

You've never seen Janine Melnitz (Annie Potts) like this before in the 1978 film Corvette Summer with Mark Hamill. It's out on Blu-Ray and on streaming services, I've got the disc on order.

Just to confirm, the 4k disc is the same in the 2016 release as the steelbook that came out last year?

I can't find the steelbook anywhere, so probably just going to get the original release...unless there's a new remaster for the 40th? haha

Anyone think we'll get another steelbook release once GB:A goes digital? Assuming Sony becomes desperate enough to, of course.

Looks like it's just the same as the previous 5 disc steelbook which is Sold Out, nice for those who missed out last time.

I guess this means we won’t be seeing the steelbook here in the UK, at least not for a while

Are there multiple versions of the regular 4k edition? I'm looking for the 4k version that comes with a code.

This 4k disc looks horrible IMO. I know there are plenty of grain lovers in here but the grain on this movie is beyond distracting. I can't understand how a movie like Spartacus or 2001 came out in the 60's and look phenomenal, but some 80's movies look like total trash in 4k.

Ghostbusters was shot on high speed film stock. There is going to be a lot of grain.

2001 was shot on slower large format negatives. A lot less grain will show up.

Leaving aside the fact that Spartacus was shot on double the negative area than GB, and 2001's 65mm negative was even bigger than that, the film stock used on GB was very fast i.e. very sensitive to light, more so than those older stocks, but this meant it was grainy AF. Couple that with the Sony Light Cannon™ HDR grade that amps up grain something chronic plus some compression that ain't all the way good (though still heroic the way it holds up, all things considered) and yeah, that's why it looks like it does in 4K HDR.

Your settings also matter of coursh, if you have the sharpening anywhere above where 'off' should be then that'll ramp up the grain.

LOL You really should educate yourself a little bit before giving an ignorant opinion. LOL

If you noticed Geoff D was polite enough to educate me a bit on the different types of film that were used between the 60's and 80's and I appreciate his comment. Thank you sir for passing on your knowledge!

You on the other hand are that know it all internet tough guy that wants to insult people with your little LOL's and what not while you're hiding behind your keyboard. Wow....you know more about film than I do, congratulations! What a joke!

My opinion is not ignorant. It's based on what I'm seeing. IMO Ghostbusters in 4k looks like hot garbage compared to every other 4k disc from the same era that I've viewed. It's by far the worst looking disc I own. I've read comments in this thread from people that think it looks like reference/demo material to others that think it looks like crap. We're all entitled to our opinions without having someone who disagrees trashing us.

I wonder what's more responsible for the grain complaints with this disc though, the film stock or the bright Sony HDR grade. Are there other 4K discs of movies shot with that same film stock but without the Sony HDR grade? Maybe Gremlins?

I should probably post this question in the steelbook thread, but since I don’t think I ever got a confirmed answer one way or the other when I asked there last year, here it goes:

Can someone who got the 1&2 steelbook *and* redeemed the new download code for 1&2 that came with it please confirm for me that it doesn’t get you access to the new disc-based content in the steelbook (detmerring, the stereo track, etc)? I think the closest to a straight answer I got was that Sony wouldn’t change the content of whatever their download codes access across different releases of the same movies, which didn’t exactly confirm anything for me.

Was surprised his comment got so many likes, to be honest.
