This is a policy you should probably ignore with Sony releases. Their slips disappear very quickly and they’ve put out several stunning UHD’s.

Watching Ghostbusters on 4K is like watching it for the first time on a pristine 35mm print. It's a stunning transfer.

Interesting that you note this. Sony's Don't Breathe 2 quickly doesn't have slips now despite it being a new release. Guess only way is to get the film early. The 4K's came out before the blu-ray's. The 4K's are out of slips but I now see the blu-ray's with slips appear.

I will say that one of the most coveted slips "The Prestige" isn't a sony release.

So you base your movie buying decisions on whether or not it comes with a piece of cardboard over the case?

It's by far the most ridiculous thing I've seen on these forums.

Just a thought.

I mean why can't Sub-Mariner be in MCU now?

Then import it. I believe nearly all the UK's copies have slips. They are nicer looking too.

When I started buying Blu-rays and seeing slipcovers on more and more of my boxes, I was confused, believing it to be retail trash that you're supposed to throw away. I keep them now, knowing their value, but it still feels like a big trick that the companies won over the consumers.

I just display mine without the slips (the “completist” in me refuses to just get rid of them lol) and it’s so much cleaner and uniform-looking.

Haha.. you probably haven't seen my post where I describe myself as an investor only. I look at everything as an investment basis only if it's a keeper. Yes, slips are part of that. Future OOP's are great.. No future money in it.. not buying it. Lol. Obviously just like the stock market.. not every trade, you sell can for a profit. Sometimes, there's a lot of bag holding going on. Probably gonna have to take it on the chin for buying blu-rays in the past. Some blu's I gave away as presents. Just trying to make up for losses. That's the fun and challenge of building a collection. It's the fun of trying to build value.

At least that's the character I'm playing here. Yeah I know that some can care less about slips.. but hey, that's having fun with it.

I was talking to my friend about this.. he said it reminded him of old travel posters. Back then, they were an afterthought.. many years later they're worth something. Like baseball cards.. they're basically a work of art. There's nothing usable about baseball cards, slips, or old travel posters other than visual appeal. If you're a collector, slips represent the 1st press which is equivalent to 1st press for books. I do believe 4K is the last format for physical media. No way, they could ever do 8K for old films. If they come out with so-called 8K of old films, I'm dumping everything I have. Lol. I doubt 8K makes an appearance since 60% of the physical media is still dedicated to DVD's at places like Walmart. So clearly, there's still a base for DVD's if Walmart is profitable enough to continue focusing on DVD's.

In terms of film quality.. don't ask me. Lol. Some of my buys just sit on the shelf unopened. Ghostbusters, I've seen many times as a kid. Some films, no need to watch again since I've seen it like 20 times. No, I don't have Ghostbusters 4K because I can't get it without the slip.. Lol. I do respect the opinion of those here who watch and grade film quality. I believe a lot of those opinions are solid in terms of what to buy for future investment.

What's the problem with the 4K transfer of Ghostbusters?

It looks beautifully filmic.

They better watch another movie then, since that's how the movie looks.

It's gritty and grainy.

I think the best available version is the remastered bluray.

I bought it for $10 from Best Buy last week, finally watching it before I see Afterlife later today.

It looks great and sounds incredible. I’m happy and don’t see any reason to buy it again should Sony re-release it.

If it was the original movie poster print and it it didn't match the case cover I could see their value. To me it's just one more step from opening the case.

Didn't look like that at the theater or drive-in in 1984.
Or the Criterion laserdisc.
