I watched the 4KBD of Ghostbusters on a 4K HDR OLED and it was the best experience watching the movie I'd ever had. Don't understand how it can be seen as a bad transfer.

It's really not - it's just the HDR is pretty aggressive which can exaggerate noise and grain. They can use the same HDR levels & transfer with the reissue and Dolby Vision will "tame" the wilder elements.

According to the Amazon listing it will be available in May. We'll have to see what we get in the US when it comes to a release. They should be individual releases bulking it with Afterlife does make sense. I have not picked up the HDR releases of 1&2 so either way I'll be getting whatever is offered to us.

I haven't seen this in person yet, disc is coming, but the CAH pictures sure looks like someone increased/cooked the average light levels of the image to make it POP, sacrificing subtlety and nuance for more HDARRRR.
Looking at Starship Troopers as a prime example of overdoing it for even on an HDR display. Last edited by KMFDMvsEnya; 11-23-2021 at 06:31 PM. |

I remember seeing it at movie theater in 1984 and on VHS in 1985 and the cable tv. In the 90s' I saw it on Criterion laserdisc. Up to that point the laserdisc looked the best because of sharpness. I had no issues about color. Then I got dvd and it looked good. Then I rent 4k and it's whaaat? All of a sudden I notice it doesn't look like I have seen it before and I mean that in a bad way.

No. what some of these need is a total HDR redo, not just rely on DV to fix it. Not everyone has DV and not all TVs handle it well. Too many releases rely on DV as a crutch to fix poor HDR10 grading. Those with no DV or sets that don't display it well are left out in the cold.

Hey guys… have read through the comments and the feedback. I don’t mind grain at all…what do you think? Get this release or wait for the Dolby Vision upgrade?

If you haven’t bought it yet then I’d wait as you’re just going to get a betterer disc all-round with the updated version. Improved compression, greater control over the Light Cannon™️ HDR if you’re DV-capable, and the original 2.0 and 5.1 audio tracks to go with the Atmos.
