We've come a long way to have Dolby Atmos on 4K UHD, and now some people want to go back 40 years and request Dolby Surround, the same audio on the VHS. There's nothing wrong with preferring the original soundtrack on 4K disc, but things changed and been upgraded. The Dolby Atmos on the current 4K UHD release of Ghostbusters doesn't sound bad and as a matter of fact, it sounds pretty good.

If the studios don't want to include the original audio on their Blu-ray and 4K UHD releases, that's their prerogative, and there's not we can do about, except to not buying it.. You can't expect brand new appliances, automobiles and other products to have the same features as they were 40, 50+ years ago. They've been improved and upgraded. Whether if we want to or not, people have change with the times. We can't live in the past because those years are gone forever.

The new boxset may not have the original audio either and by the way, Bullmoose will have the set for only $95.97, it's $54.00 cheaper than Amazon. If you want it, better grab one before they're gone.

I'm all for "improving and upgrading" by going from a lossy format to a lossless, but I think creating an Atmos mix for older movies is just stupid. It seems like a marketing gimmick to entice people who just want superfluous new things without giving thought to whether or not those things are suitable or actually improve the experience in any way. I find the practice analogous to the terrible CGI additions to the original Star Wars trilogy.

I love Atmos mixes for films that were originally mixed that way, but give me lossless OG audio for a film like Ghostbusters. I couldn't care less about the Atmos mix. I'm glad people who are into that sort of thing have it as an option, but it ain't for me.

Things like wide color gamut and HDR work to extract more of what is already contained on the film, so anyone looking to compare those things to creating a new Atmos mix are making a specious argument.

Of course, this is all just my opinion and I'm a cantankerous butthole, so you're probably best to just ignore everything I say.

I hope they redo the special effects for the first 2 films so they look more like Afterlife. This is 2021/2022, things get upgraded....

Remixing older movies in Dolby Atmos or DTS:X audio is not stupid; the studios just want to upgrade the sound to accompany the new A/V receivers that has incorporated the audio formats, that people are running to buy. If the technology was available and advanced 40+ years ago, the movies would've been originally recorded in Dolby Atmos, but the technology in 1984 was only Dolby Stereo. People are criticizing the Dolby Atmos audio on older movies without giving it a chance, and purists don't want to listen to the Dolby Atmos audio because it's a remix. . Don't knock it until you try it, listen to it first! I've heard many Dolby Atmos and DTS:X remixes of older movies on 4K UHD Blu-rays, and they sounded awesome.

Currently DeepDiscount for me. Slightly curious to see if Amazon drops that much before release.
