You? Inebriated? Never would have guessed...

Off to indulge in fine French food, as all the friends we had lined up (breeders, all of them) bailed due to the plague infesting all parental units up here.

Meanwhile, happy x-ian NY to you - Already some lovely snaps up here: http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/201..._rolls_in.html

Oh, and amused you're going for the Samsung LCD for your new set, can't get a discount on the Sony?

Thanks for the good replies PaulGo and PM. Based on PaulGo's viewing, it sounds like we definitely were at a theater that wasn't set up right that day.

Penton, did I understand you correctly that you'd need 2 different calibration settings on your TV -one for 2-D and another for 3-D due to the dark tinted glasses?

PM was looking at the 72" LG set - Sony doesn't make one that big (yet).

I am but a humble towel boy …as Squid Puppet likes to refer to me.

Seriously, the only brand loyalty I have in life is in terms of vintage motorcycles and that be for the Penton. Ultimately, I will end up choosing the best tool (display) for my own personal needs with things like SIZE, picture quality, calibration capability/adjustability, as well as the viewing room environment, user-friendliness for my wife and visiting relatives being primary considerations rather than cost which is of secondary or even tertiary importance.

Plus, the mark-up on these premium products aint as much as some people might think. So, there is really not much of a cost savings for me going hat-in-hand to somebody down in Rancho Bernardo.

For viewing 3D content with a 2D/3D TV, you or the TV must increase the brightness of the image for optimal viewing as compared to 2D viewing, one way or another (most folks probably end up just using the set-up menu), due to light filtration by the active shutter glasses. You just can’t cheat physics. And changing the brightness will change the gamma, color gamut, grayscale, etc. of the image.

How you do it and how the particular display allows you to do it, is largely based upon the versatility (or lack thereof) of the particular brands or models. I think that some models are probably more adjustable than others.

When you purchase your TV, it’s probably best to get a calibrator like Jeff Meier (http://www.accucalhd.com) to see if the particular display is versatile enough to allow you to do separate calibrations for 2D and 3D on the same HDMI input and actually measure the results of their tweaking with an HD signal generator (combined with thorough 3D test material) as well as a reference grade colorimeter.

Hell, the cost of Jeff’s audio calibration alone (despite whatever sound system you own) is well worth it.

I received quite a few PM’s concerning Nintendo’s alleged warning (if the Google translation is accurate) that children under age six should not use Nintendo's 3DS gaming system in its three-dimensional viewing mode- http://www.cbc.ca/health/story/2010/...#ixzz19teI3NB2

The above ^ is somewhat of a broad recommendation which I disagree with. For parents of children in that particular age group who might be going to the upcoming CES in Vegas might I recommend attending the MommyTech Summit at the conference where an established expert in the field will be speaking, namely, Dominick M Maino, OD, MEd, FAAO, FCOVD-A.

Alternatively, if you are unable to attend, in his personal blog, Dominick has already addressed (as well as other vision experts) his thoughts on the *Warning* as well as the missed opportunity for Nintendo not to encourage the early diagnosis and treatment of children in this age group who already have unsuspected (at least by their parents), correctable ocular disorders by the company failing to recommend eye examination by a qualified health care professional.

Scroll down to the two adjacent Nintendo 3D postings here…http://mainosmemos.blogspot.com

Not porn, as it will probably ultimately be given a PG-13 rating… but my current mistress is 'Fiona's Tale' and she is one demanding lady. Even quite the exhibitionist I must say, as she enjoys doing it in public out in the freakin rain.

Some how when you mentioned Fiona I was thinking of Carmon Diaz which is her voice - I think she looks a lot nicer!

JimSD, someone from the Electronics division (they’re watching me , i.e. after posting the outside interest in LG thing I presume) passed this digital tidbit on to me…I guess sympathetic after reading on this thread about your unfulfilled quest for a 3D TV at other local area large consumer electronics outlets.

I realize Costa Mesa is a tad northwest of you but, it is on a Friday night (after your work, I presume) and you can always ask the sales counselor to pop in a Sony BD3D after the basketball broadcast…http://lakersonespn3d.eventbrite.com/

Plus, free eats, drinks and giveaways.

Dude, you’re going to me nightmares! Is that jaundiced payback for all the soccer vuvuzela YouTubes I’ve addressed to you in the past? Alas, I don’t think you’ve broken the production code. Maybe when I get some time later on in Jan., I’ll post a pic of my complimentary crew cap.

I would expect someone like sharkshark to make the motion picture connection because he’s a google-meister or bing-meister with that fast home computer he’s got and seems to have a good handle on what’s on my mind.

Much nicer.

That reminds me. JimSD, after checking out the 2D/3D TVs, there’s a Victoria’s Secret store location at South Coast Plaza in case you wish to treat your wife to an apparel gift (I'm a Secret shopper or, more accurately, a V.S. apparel consultor for my wife) and I enjoy the shopping exercise myself.

Nah, I hate Shrek.

Speaking of, just got back from ENTER THE VOID - coming to BD soon, only cineastes should partake I think, and preferably on the BIGGEST screen you can find...

Actually, nothing at all to do with Shrek. In fact, there is no ‘Fiona’s Tale’ listing on IMDB for anything in production or even in pre-production. It’s code. That’s how us sly folks in Hollywood do it.

Instead of thinking along the lines of Fiona’s Tale DreamWorks Animation, it might be more enlightening to Google something like... Fiona’s Tale Columbia Pictures.
