I contact the Amazon seller from whom I got it, and he offered to refund or give me 60% back. I took the 60% assuming I could get a replacement somewhere.

I would've returned it, and gotten a complete series, but that's just me. Good luck trying to find a replacement disc.

Well I got it very cheap and didn't want to deal with returning because I'm confined to a chair because of an injury. There is a website I just noticed called replacetvdisc.com but I'm worried they are just copies with disc covers printed.

So the wife and I have been watching season two of Downton Abbey. Easily as good as the first season so far, which was terrific. I've been floored by the gorgeous photography of this season (one episode aside) and the impressive detail. I checked on IMDB and noticed that this season was filmed with the Arri Alexa. I haven't watched In Time yet but look forward to seeing what Deakins did with this camera.

Kris, are you watching it on Blu-ray or PBS? I think it gets released next month sometime.

Blu-ray. I bought it back in November from the UK so I could give it to the wife for Christmas. It is region free and an absolutely gorgeous transfer.

As for the link, there was something of a red carpet event locally as well. What can I say... the area has apparently gone Hollywood.

Sure, there was some movies (or portions) filmed in the area in the past ("The Long Riders", some biopic about Bear Bryant, as well as multiple other ones), but Sherwood Baptist Church has done very well with their films (the last three distributed by Sony of course), and with "The Odd Life of Timothy Green" partially filmed in Albany... as well as IN the county I live in, it will be interesting to see what else happens.

We've also had multiple celebrities who have come from the area (Otis Redding, Johnny Mathis, Wayland Flowers, Lucius Battle, Robert Ground, Ray Charles, Paula Deen, Jim Fowler, JoMarie Payton, Luke Bryan, Buster Posey, etc.), but even that may increase this year because a local boy (heck... he apparently grew up part of his life within miles of me) by the name of Phillip Phillips, Jr. is an "American Idol" contestant this year. Shortly after he appeared on Idol last Wednesday, he was trending on Twitter, and people are making predictions he might win it. For those curious, here he is:

I have a couple of them:
1. When do you think (if ever) we will Friends on Blu-Ray? Is it that expansive for studios to remaster old TV shows?
2. There are some talks about 8K, but we still haven't gotten to 4K content. Do you think we will skip 4K altogether?

What are the challenges of producing 4K/8K content and why haven't we seen them yet?
Thank!
You’re welcome.
1. I think that’s out of WHV…I wouldn’t know.
2. No.

For 8k x 4k – we’ll talk later….much later.

For non-theatrical, non-VFX, where the intended final deliverable is a 1080p master (i.e. TV), the Alexa is quite a popular camera.

If, on the other hand, if you are producing something like a mini-series which is all shot on green screen, so in the end, it is 100% VFX with a lot of CGI, matte painting, virtual set extension, etc., then a 4k camera would be quite a reasonable (and to some, preferable) alternative.

Guys, I’m WAY backed up in answering PMs. Please be patient as I’m slowly whittling them down when I check in and I’ll get to everyone…eventually.

I think we’ve lost a lot of our original readers because of the current economic conditions and how they relate to both people who still have jobs and those who are *between jobs*.

Hang in there. This is entertainment...it’s not like we’re doing something as noble as saving lives and stamping out disease. Tend to business and check-in when you can.

Hi Penton Man,

According to the Indiana Jones thread Paramount Spain has rumored that the Indiana Jones Trilogy will be coming to Blu Ray in September of this year. Have you heard anything about it?

I felt the same way, but then I realized I'd need a new display, player, and at least $3k worth of new blu-rays. Ouch!

Need? Or want? Big difference.
Do you have the best, top-of-the-line HT right now? Do you have the best mobil phone on the market right now? What your laptop/pc?
Very rare are the people that have the "latest & greatest" that technology has to offer. If you get caught up in the "I've got to have this new tech" method of thinking you'll price yourself right out of the game.
My advice: Enjoy your current set up, with blu-ray movies. There's nobody saying you have to upgrade.

4k Blu-ray is inevitable. I won’t speak to the timeline of when 4K Blu-ray movies will be available to the consumer.
