leaving nobody left back at the fort to do the authoring of both versions of the film?

Seriously, given the essence of the motion picture, I really don’t think that many consumers who purchase the Blu-ray edition will fret over not having the theatrical version when the Unrated version has been made available.

Sheesh, we’re not talking cinematic history here.

Now, this conversation took place at about 4am after the 8th or 9th film, so things might have been dodgy, but that's what I got out of him...
No, not ‘dodgy’ at all in regards to the fps. You got it right . Tim was also correct about the software update. I just wanted to see you journalistically shine in front of our membership with eyewitness information.

Later on, I’ll elaborate further as to how theaters (like Alamo Drafthouse) equipped with the Sony 4k projector are actually better prepared (less hurdles to overcome) in the exhibition of P.J.’s The Hobbit as compared to another competitor’s projectors, as soon as the standards organization adopts this frame rate. For now, I’m trying to get out of the office, ASAP.

Actually, we kind of are.

I grok your 'this ain't (the proverbial) Shakespeare' message, but I disagree on principle. I think if it's worth releasing on video, it's worth releasing properly on video and that means letting people watch what they saw in theatres. With the number of these 'unrated cut'-only releases that come out, I feel very lucky that there happens to have been relatively little crossover with movies I want, so far. I would be pretty angry if I'd fallen in love with a movie and looked forward to its release, only to find I was being given something else, instead.

Penton, any word on when the next ASM trailer is coming? I'm thinking sometime this week, with both Dragon Tattoo and Tintin coming out (Sony was a part of both).

Another man's trash is another man's treasure.

Colombiana may not be a cinematic game changer, but Stripes was huge. And now there's no way to see the film (in its original form) the way many have seen it for decades on Blu-ray, which should be the best way.

After all, the studios are spending big bucks to even present the crappy 3D conversions of crappy films on BD.

What's next? 1.78 crops of 'scope 2.35 films? Oh wait, Echo Bridge Entertainment is already doing this. https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Supercop-Blu-ray/22171/

But really, how hard is it to branch the theatrical original these days? It can't be that expensive if bloody Universal is doing it. Universal making Sony look bad? Impossible!

Any chance a certain Mr. Sosinsky might have some announcements to make at CES?

Aside from a few exceptions, I am always disappointed when the "Theatrical Cut" is not included.

As much as I'd LIKE to get it, it will be a while before I end up purchasing "Colombiana," but when I do, I will once again be disappointed.

Hobbit trailer's out... One thing I can confirm, the colour timing on the 3D version is quite excellent, they did a super good job IMO maintaining the look of the earlier trilogy when compensating for 3D. The 3rd time through I even took time to watch part of it w/o glasses just for giggles.

There's little that's gee-whiz about the 3D, it's all about depth of image. I think it'll look fabulous in 3D, and fabulous at home on 2D blu

I'm very curious about which methodology they'll use to master the 2D release (vis a vis frame-rate).

Meanwhile, I finally made it to Hugo last night, but the projection was off at the beginning, so I only got to see the Titanic trailer in spectrum-filtered 2D. Oh, well. I'm guessing it'll be on Tintin, as well. Hugo was nice stuff.
