That opinion could change if there was a proliferation of 4K content to look at, but I think we have a long way to go.

I will be sure to view as much high resolution footage as possible, including material captured at 4K and converted to 1080p to see if I notice any benefit to the upscaling. I will even run a split image against my lowly 1080p JVC RS35 and see how it goes.
I'll give you $100 for that lowly projector, and even pay for at least part of the shipping cost...

Very interested in 4K bluray! Any chance the format would have it's native aspect ratio of 17:9 as all digital cinema projector's do as well as it seems most home projectors with 4K capability? It seems the LED-LCD displays are utilising 16:9 instead except for the 152. in. Panasonic. 17:9 simply is a better aspect ratio for film and avoids the cropping issue that many blurays have going from 2K to 1.9K.

Though my current (and for the foreseeable future) financial status prevents me from indulging my Blu-ray habit, I still wanted to express my thanks to Sony for once again releasing a (semi) locally filmed movie in "Courageous" on Blu-ray.

I don't know if I'll enjoy the film at all, but the HD resolution will still come in handy when attempting to figure out where certain scenes were filmed.

Thanks!

Good idea (as was that of wishing for 10 bit color depth, as 8 bit is a relic of the capabilities of old phosphorous based display technology) but alas, I wouldn’t count on it at the time of the launch.

Penton please give my kudos to the chefs at Sony for the marvelous encode on Moneyball. Outstanding presentation of a great film. The wife and I enjoyed it immensely, even if we only got to watch it on our 120" 1080p screen.
I think that George Clooney spoke well of both the film (Moneyball) and Brad Pitt at the Golden Globes. Good to see he gave the cane back to Brad.

If you noticed the stylistic lighting of Moneyball, I think it’s pretty easy to figure out who is Wally Pfister’s (the D.P.) favorite cinematographer……Gordon Willis.

Like with Mr. Willis, he used darkness to set the mood for the drama. Wally actually went so far as to have the ballpark shut down half of the stadium lighting so as to create more of an edge light effect for the dramatic mood.

That makes sense to me. I don't know if this description will mean anything to anyone else, but I tend to think of both of their styles as similarly 'dry'.

i seen that the other day and wondered would it come up in this thread!

im sure there are things that are much more likely to cause psychotic episodes in ones life!

Penton - with all this talk of 4k - is the ps4 likely to be a 4k machine when it launches? with 4k blu-ray drive etc? Im assuming the ps3 wouldnt be able to do 4k from a potential upgraded blu-ray spec.. but i could be wrong!

While I certainly wouldn't call myself a 3D fan, that is pretty out there.

But on that note, I saw Hugo the other day in 3D (only way it was playing at the theater) and it's the first film since Avatar that actually made for a compelling 3D experience. There were some missteps here and there (and ghosting from the Sony 4K PJ), but overall I was pretty impressed.

Well, that’s the million dollar question which both consumers as well as competitors would love to know, now isn’t it?
Since,~ Alan from Georgia plugged Courageous, here’s your chance for a shout-out in your neck of the woods

P.S.
I hope you and the kids are feeding dem ducks for me in my absence.

You have a good eye but, this is not exclusive to the Sony projector as I noticed the same thing on a few shots at both industry screenings which I attended (https://forum.blu-ray.com/insider-di...ml#post5460568 ).

Neither of which utilized Sony 4k projectors for their 3D presentation of Hugo. All the affected scenes (of which there are a tiny handful, so as not to spook future viewers), that I noticed exhibiting this artifact were high contrast shots characterized by large disparity and most likely too deep to fuse on any theatrical projection system without showing signs of ghosting.

Don't blame the messenger- I'm just telling you that "4K?" isn't popular question #1 about PS4; it's popular question #327.
