Hopefully. The Joker needs no origin. Even The Killing Joke could be seen as just a tale The Joker tells for even he doesn't remember his exact origin. We don't ever need a true, definitive origin for The Joker. I really hope that The Joker is established as well as his relationship to Harley Quinn.

Jai Courtney Eyed for Batman Villain Deadshot in ‘Suicide Squad’ (EXCLUSIVE)

“Terminator: Genesys” star Jai Courtney is in talks for a major role in Warner Bros.’ “Suicide Squad” that could prove to be Batman villain Deadshot, sources tell Variety.

Tom Hardy, Will Smith, Margot Robbie and Jared Leto are also in various stages of discussions to star in the super-villainous movie, which is being written and directed by “Fury” filmmaker David Ayer.

Produced by Charles Roven, “Suicide Squad” will be released in summer 2016.

Warner Bros. had no comment on this story.

Suicide Squad,” based on the DC comic book, centers on the team of super villains who are given a chance at redemption by the government. The catch: their mission will probably kill them all.

Warner Bros. is courting Leto to play the Joker, Robbie for Harley Quinn and Hardy for Rick Flagg, a founding member of the Suicide Squad. As for Smith, it’s uncertain which character he will play but sources say it’s likely The Flash nemesis Digger Harkness a.k.a. Captain Boomerang.

Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor, who co-stars in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” may also join the film.

Though the character of Deadshot isn’t as well known as Lex Luthor or the Joker, he’s a key villain in the “Batman” comicbook universe. Also known as Floyd Lawton, the Deadshot character has a major death wish and also has a strong bond with Catwoman, although there’s been no confirmation yet that Catwoman will make an appearance in “Suicide Squad.”

WB could obviously give Deadshot and the other “Suicide Squad” members their own standalone films should the movie prove a success.

As for Courtney, ‘Suicide Squad” would mark yet another major Hollywood franchise the Australian has landed in a short amount of time. He broke out as John McClane’s son in “A Good Day to Die Hard” and followed that up as a villain in “Divergent” with plans to reprise the role in “Insurgent” which bows next year.

He also plays Kyle Reese in the next “Terminator” pic “Terminator: Genisys” which opens next summer and co-stars Emilia Clarke as Sarah Connor and Jason Clarke as her son, John.

Courtney is repped by CAA and Morrissey Management.

Possible roles revealed for Hardy and Smith?

Quote:
Variety have revealed that Jai Courtney (Divergent) is in talks for a leading role in 2016's Suicide Squad. The Task Force X team member he's being eyed for is apparently Deadshot, the Batman villain who recently made his presence felt in Arrow. They add that Tom Hardy, Will Smith, Margot Robbie and Jared Leto are all still in various stages of discussions and have details on which characters each of these actors are being lined up for. We know that Leto is being considered for The Joker of course, but the site confirms that Robbie is in the running for Harley Quinn and reveal that Hardy is being looked at for Rick Flagg. They're not quite so sure about Smith, but sources tell them that he's likely it’s likely Digger Harkness a.k.a. Captain Boomerang. Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor is also still expected to appear after debuting in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Warner Bros. clearly aren't playing around now and with a cast like this, they're obviously taking their DC Comics adaptations very seriously. One thing's for sure though...Marvel can't be happy about losing actors like these to their Distinguished Competition! What do you guys think?

Sorry, nothing too definitive.

I'm over Will Smith. Used to be a fan, but then he started shoving his no-talent kids down our throats and after seeing the Smiths everywhere, I've unfortunately grown tired of Will Smith. And, in my humble opinion, he hasn't been in a good or great movie in a long time. I don't think he's the A-list talent anymore that WB seems to think he is.

WB also seems to be under the impression that people like Jai Courtney, but I've mostly seen people react to him with indifference or disdain.

I wouldn't be too worried if they end up signing the mentioned actors. Leto, Robbie and Hardy will carry this film and probably Eisenberg to an extent.

Will Smith will not be Captain Boomerang. That makes no sense whatsoever. Play Black Manta. Hardy should be Deadshot. If Jai Courtney must suck up the joint make him Captain Boomerang. That makes more sense.

The fact that he wouldn't be leading this film tells me that WB doesn't think Smith is A List talent anymore either...This is the first time Will would just basically be part of an ensemble, not leading a film. That's pretty crazy. I like him a lot as an actor, he's very charismatic, but he really needs to change the projects he's turning down or picking. The fact that he let his own ego get in the way of Django Unchained is sad, and much the same for the upcoming Independence Day sequels. I'm very curious to see if he's putting himself aside for once and if he'll actually take the role here.

True. Maybe his recent failures humbled him a bit and made him realize he can't always be the star. (Looking at you especially, After Earth). And, of course, there are a lot of actors begging to get in on these comic book movies now, when they wouldn't have touched them with a thirty foot pole a few years ago.

His reason for passing on Django was very sad. If Smith gets a role in this movie, I hope he becomes the character and not Will Smith playing Will Smith. He's one of those actors that, when I see him in a movie, I see Will Smith -- not the character. So it won't be Boomerang and Joker sharing a scene, it would be Will Smith and the Joker.

He's a good actor - I'd actually like to see him push himself a bit more and do some more Pursuit of Happyness-type dramatic works, especially now that his career has slowed down a bit - but most of his movies have him being Will Smith.

I'd rather see Sam Worthington than Jai Courtney, Jai is boring and looks like a cave man... he should be Ensino Man.

I wouldn't want to see Hardy in this either, especially after what they did to Bane.

Sam Worthington is just as boring. Why would you want to see him in this?

I really hope this Jai Courtney thing doesn't turn out to be true. He's probably my least favorite actor doing work right now and putting him to good actors like Margot Robbie and Tom Hardy is just a sin against nature, in my opinion.

I was just saying that he's a better actor and I understand it's the "cool" thing to hate on the guy but I like him and would like to see him get a good role in a good film for once.

I fell in love with Margot Robbie when she was on the sadly short-lived "Pan Am" TV show. So I'm all for her being in anything I plan to see.

Can't see him not being in it. Then again, who knows what to name of this? Strange being the third movie of the DCCU.
