This really makes me wish Paramount would release that 3D master on 2D for the original Top Gun now.

I could see Kenny doing a new song for the film, but Berlin broke up years ago. It would be nice if their lead singer Teri Nunn did something for it, though.

Ah, I had no idea.

Whoever they get to direct needs to stay away from the CGI. Top Gun needs REAL dogfights as much as possible. Hopefully Cruise will push for practical stunts over CGI (given his track record, I think he will).

You know, there could be some untapped potential with this one since there have been very few movies in recent years that have featured jet/airplane dog fights. The only ones I can think of are Flyboys, Stealth and Red Tails.

In all honesty, as much as I love Top Gun, I'd rather we were getting Days of Thunder 2.

Wasn't that already made under the title Taladega Nights?

There was the scene at the beginning of Green Lantern, which was obvious CGI because there wasn't any weight to anything you saw on the screen.

Yeah, and the movies I gave examples of weren't really great examples of real looking aerial dogfights either. Hopefully a Top Gun 2 won't look as fake as Red Tails!

They will do it for real and mount IMAX cameras

I'm till really anxious to see what Cruise's role will be in this.

Cruise is only 2 years younger than John Richardson, the current Chief of Naval Operations (highest ranking officer in the Navy)

Maverick would have had to have pretty unique career to still be flying for the Navy now.

Yeah kind of reminds me when Pacino and De Niro were playing nearly 70 year old cops in Righteous Kill!

only thing that would logically make sense is if he were a test pilot in the private sector.

He's about the right age for some of the top private sector test pilots like David Mackay and Mark Stucky at Virgin Galactic. Stucky actually attended Top Gun at about the same time as the movie was set.
