[Show spoiler]Esspecially since that's how the first movie ended.

I wouldn't mind a Top Gun 2 Movie. I have not seen one movie focused on a jet such as the F-14s in top gun. Sure there is Stealth but that is not based on actual jets. I'd love to see Top Gun 2 with some F-23s and using current political issues we have going on with Iran and China. I think it would be really cool more action less love and sex. Ok maybe sex but romance? no way. I want to see blood! in 7.1 surrond sound!

Your exactly right!...and that's why Top Gun Kicked @$$. I'm up for a sequel under two conditions...
...No Val kilmer and No Kelley McGillis. Niether of them are in any condition to respectably reprise thier roles.

Look, if Rambo can come back 25 years after his debut with a respectable action flick then so can Mav.

Wouldn't be the same without F-14 Tomcats, and there are no more in active flight.

I thought the F-16 looked like a childs toy compared to the Tomcat.

Let me guess. Maverick will be Iceman's wingman THIS time.

Iceman: "You can be my wingman anytime."

In all sincerity? I'd spend the time and money to see Top Gun 2. It couldn't possibly be any worse than some of the other shite their marketing department has convinced me to see in the last 10 years.

Seriously I thought they made the sequel already, the film was just called Days of Thunder. Think about it, both films had the same exact plot except one was in a car the other was in a plane.

I don't recall the Dale Earnhardt character sleeping with Nicole Kidman, so no...it's not like Top Gun at all.

I'd definitely check out a TG sequel. I have no idea how they would run with it but I'd watch it just to see.
Oh I know, it's just that we really have no reason to revisit any of our favorite 80's flicks with reboots or sequels. Let them be. They are films from a time period and I would prefer that it's left alone. If they want to make another similar film then go for it but stop trying to reboot, relaunch, sequelize, or whatever ya call it to our classics.

It just doesn't work, IMO.

Was Iceman Maverick's wingman in the first movie? I thought maverick was his...but he did say "I'm not leaving my wingman" sometime during the aerial fire fight

Yes the F-22 is cool but it is an air force plane so it's out.

The JSF is not yet on active duty so it's F-18s or some made up aircraft type using CGI. no matter if the movie is made or not I will not see it.

But...a SEQUEL? Is that what Tom Cruises career has come to? I mean.... really? He cant be broke..can he? Has Scientology ruined him this much?

Wow.
Cliche! When Top Gun was filmed stuff like that wasn't 'Cliche', now 25 years of other movies trying to imitate has formed what we now call 'cliche'

I would love a TG2, however finding a plot "they can all agree on" knowing that it will be one of the biggest ridiculed films of the new decade will be not only tuff, but huge...

Batman Begins pulled off a perfect reboot
Rambo pulled a 'respectable' sequel to a franchise I though was long over..
The list goes on, it can be done.

They just really need to be careful here. It's still Navy, A Carrier would be needed, & its important not to saturate the market w/ middle east 'war' type films, otherwise it'll feel like another Iron Eagle. Let's face it, the Middle East is a boring back-drop. N. Korea's been done w/ Stealth & sucked with S.E.A.L.S 2.

I'd like to hear suggestions, but I think TG2 is an uphill battle when facing enemies w/ inferior planes... I mean who are we going against? Everyone with Jets that compare are either allies or friendly nations doing commerce. Realism must be a factor. Thus as much as I don't want to say it, TG2 probably will never come to fruition. Jmho

Nice pic. I thought the Navy has some F-2X type jet too.

'Top Gun 2' to Be Written By 'The Town' Scribe

Jerry Bruckheimer Films and Skydance Productions will produce the sequel to the 1986 Tom Cruise hit.

Quote:
The Town writer Peter Craig has been tapped to pen Top Gun 2 for Paramount, THR has confirmed.

Jerry Bruckheimer Films and Skydance Productions will produce the sequel to the 1986 Tom Cruise hit. The Tony Scott-directed film grossed $354 million worldwide and was Cruise's biggest box office hit until Mission: Impossible (1996).

Craig is sizable hire for Paramount, suggesting the studio is serious about the project. He also penned a rewrite of the script for Horse Soldiers, an adaptation of the Doug Staton nonfiction book of the same name that Bruckheimer Films is producing. Horse Soldiers centers on soldiers who did battle on horseback against the Taliban after 9/11.

The Town, released by Warner Bros. in 2010, starred Ben Affleck, Jeremy Renner and Jon Hamm and took in $154 million worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo (on just a $37M Budget).

Cruise has said that he'd like to make a sequel to Top Gun, a 1980s cultural touchstone. In September, The Hollywood Reporter reported that the film was being converted to 3D by Legend3D for Paramount and could be re-released this year.

Interesting. I wonder what role Cruise will have. The Tom Skerritt like/head honcho job perhaps

Possible Plot:
Cruise's character hires a bunch of new Top Guns to go on a top secret rescue mission to save Val Kilmer's career...

[Show spoiler]

I Kid. I'm Kidding!
