![]() With the aliens come to earth aspect, maybe both Tom Cruse and John Travolta both would be receptive to it? FarScape definitely deserved a better movie than it got. |

The irony about Top Gun Maverick is that it really doesn't have anything that couldn't be duplicated or released 5 years ago. Hollywood just made a movie everyone wanted to see, instead of making one for a selective audience - and it's budget wasnt even particularly high.
I think that in addition to COVID keeping people from coming to theaters, a lot of people just gave up on Hollywood period (including myself really, save for a few exceptions). So those people are slowly making their way back into theaters after word of mouth - I've read stories where people haven't seen a theatrical showing at all for 5-10 years but Top Gun was appealing to them Hollywood needs to get back to entertaining the populace at large rather than focusing movies on specific demos. And Cruise has the right attitude on Twitter being thankful instead of insulting the audience on opening week as Disney stars frequently do. |

What's funny is that it's pretty much the same plot as the original. It's like George Miller doing Mad Max Fury Road. That's a legacy sequel that pretty much redoes Road Warrior. Except it tackles a much needed issue to talk about along with pushing the boundaries of effects, stunts, cgi and action.
Yet it does it was such respect and updates for the modern times. It's weird how I kept thinking about this movie even after seeing it a few weeks ago. |

Tom Cruise or not Maverick is over $600 million in North America and $1.2 billion worldwide today. Money talks everything else is cheap whiskey. Who cares how good or how bad an actor is. Just look @ his paycheck on top and kiss the moon goodbye. Who makes $100 million for one flick only? ...Bullshit walks. Tom Cruise is Top Gun, Mickey Rourke is Jealous Guy? |

Grosses
DOMESTIC (50.5%) $599,453,895 INTERNATIONAL (49.5%) $587,900,000 WORLDWIDE $1,187,353,895 So the 12th is the day of the $600 million plus. Will it get to $700 million, that's the next question. And if yes when? * Tom Cruise will be able to afford a new 4K HDR TV. |

No. Just. No. Maverick was more successful that anyone could have dreamt. Leave it there, guys. There's simply no way a rushed out third instalment designed purely to cash in on an unexpected phenomenon could even come close to replicating Maverick's critical and commercial success. They're on a hiding to nothing. Let it go.

I agree; Tom could take a shot @ James Bond perhaps.

Yep, just rerelease it in a bit with the CGI fixed, a better explanation added for why no stealth bombers, and the 3D that the film was supposed to release with prior to the delays. Make the 3D strong, and light a fire under James Cameron, who looks like he's going to "weaksauce" us with Avatar 2's 3D ![]() Oh, and with an appropriate 80s nostalgia soundtrack, or at least letting the Top Gun Theme and Highway to the Danger Zone play out. |
