As good as this film is, I still don't think the Academy will honor it very much, if at all. They tend to favor independent dramas that hardly no one ever sees, versus the blockbusters that make the most money.

If this had been "Return of the King"-tier, I could see it being a slight for the "Academy" to snub it, but in a saner time TG:M would have been a 5 or a 6, maybe a 7 out of 10.

Perhaps we'll be surprised and Phoenix and the lack of a hot babe for Maverick's character will curry enough favor with the Academy that it gets a nom for something besides technical merits. Speaking of which, I'm torn as while the jet scenes were cool, there was some truly awful CGI (eg:the missile turrets) in there too, making it maybe too much of a mixed bag..?

After 155 days in the theaters Maverick is down to 292 theatrical venues and with a total domestic cume of $716.5 million.

[ $717 million domestic seems to be the end of the line. And worldwide; $1.486 billion ]

My best guess: Black Panther 2 and Avatar 2 won't touch Top Gun 2.
The best chance for Avatar 2 is on the international stage, which could surpass Maverick worldwide. 3D should also help (in China). Avatar 2 is a 190 minutes flick.

Black Adam (The Rock) versus Top Gun (Maverick)? ...No contest, just ask Scorsese...'The Color of Money'.

...And with the coming wave this fall-winter ... We'll be watching Maverick @ home, on 4K Blu.

I say it definitely has a chance for Editing, sound, and song. Possible chance of Cinematography, VFX and Best Picture.

When it comes to visuals and sounds Shane is one of the pros I trust best.

By the way I found the 4K Blu in one of the stores today...early Halloween, before the big wave.

And out of the blue my guess for today (Saturday) in theaters: $50,000 domestic.

"Tom Cruise is reportedly getting 10-20% of the net grosses from the theatrical run, and as the movie has grossed over $1.486 billion worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing film of 2022, Cruise is likely to earn well upwards of $100 million, perhaps even as much as $200 million, from his work on it!"

This has to be the top Hollywood actor salary of all times for one film.

* His base salary for playing Maverick was only $13 million.
He could have asked easily $20 million; but Tom is not greedy...he simply signed a contract to get a small percentage of the flick's net grosses revenues (10-20%), that's all.
No wonder Tom insisted to not release the film on a streaming channel due to covid, and just wait (patience) for the theater release. It paid off HUGE time!
The guy is not only a hard-core working actor but also wise in business.

I bet Paramount is gong to make an extra bundle with the sale of various discs versions, plus merchandise, plus Maverick Halloween costumes, plus streaming of course.
Just look @ the price for just the 4K disc here in Canada...$35 before tax!
And for just the regular Blu-ray disc...$27 before tax!
The Steelbook...$49 before tax!
The DVD...$22 before tax (480p)!

A+ on cinema score, super high on rotten tomatoes, excellent on metacritic, etc., etc., etc.
