Sergeant York was used by the War Department as a recruiting tool. They had recruiters outside of theaters. Movie is still really good.

It wasn't the principal goal when the Navy agreed to help make Top Gun. It just happened.

I like them both equally, although the overall music is better in original IMO.

An interesting tidbit, the love scene in the original Top Gun was added after the movie was complete.

Great movie but I would've liked to seen Sundown (r.i.p.) and the other pilots again. A scene where maverick apologizes to sundown

Act of Valor used active-duty SEAL team members.

From the wikipedia article "For the Navy, the film is an initiative to recruit SEALs and SWCC. According to The Huffington Post, the Navy required the active-duty SEALs to participate."

Tried watching that once. The "acting" was so awful it was uncomfortable to watch and I shut it off.

The acting may be terrible, but the action scenes are superb. It's what the 'skip' button was invented for.

Finally got to watch this on Paramount+ and wow their sound on streaming was awful. I had to turn it up almost all the way to hear dialogue. Despite that, loved it and will be picking up on 4K disc.

I think this movie would look amazing with a 3D conversion. Especially since the first film was stellar with its 3D conversion, while being a much older film.
Too bad Paramount gave up on 3D until they rereleased Titanic.
