and with regards to - metrologists, I guess as long as they don’t reveal too much insider information about discussions within the HDR working group of the International Committee of Display Metrology (e.g. in their reviews, calibrators placing emphasis on how well consumer displays show fidelity to exactly following the PQ curve).

Sheesh, because of this post – https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...r#post15152823 while ridin I received a PM this afternoon from an apparently staunch admirer of David complaining that I was unfairly singling him out.

Not true, as I didn’t refer to Tyler in the same fashionable parentheses because I was rushed for time in the last paragraph of that posting. If it makes some feel better I can remedy that easily to show I am a prejudicial-free razzer.

As has been suspected by LordoftheRings - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...y#post14718023 yes, I believe numbers are important in various situations, so on that note, I’ll do a Version 2 of that post and add a parenthesis factual comment for Tyler too in the spirit of far play –

I see D-Nice is active (over at AVS at least)…. http://www.avsforum.com/forum/465-hi...l#post56305128

Too funny , what with the PLETHORA of people all over the internet linking that HDTVtest video and using it as a gold standard by well respected calibrator Vincent, here we see well respected calibrator D-Nice completely disagreeing with the material/method root basis of the comparison……and crickets as to a reply by the masses.

Robert Z., it’s up to you to employ well respected calibrator Tyler P. (if he’s learned to not error in his LUT calculation and get it right the first time , so some needn’t point out the error ) or David Mackenzie (if he’s learned to pronounce ‘temporal’ correctly ) to be the ultimate arbitrator of these divergent assertions.

Anyway on the subject of slide rules - I still have the one I acquired in school. I haven't used it since I got my first calculator Keystone 88 calculator which has a amber gas discharge display. (I still have this calculator!)

Yes, I still have a tendency to do that . Follow-up to an Oct. 2017 post - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...s#post14273943

Months later, the program is made public and specifically note 6:15 P.M. – 9 P.M. on Day 1 - https://www.smpte.org/sites/default/...%20Track_2.pdf

For those thinking of attending at least some of the conference next week up in Sunnyvale and enjoy being privy to the cutting edge of video, mixing with influencers and such, might I recommend also not missing on Day 1 at 3:30 P.M. - A.I. in Your Eye: Can Machine Learning Improve Picture Quality?

Default Sony Venice cameras for Avatar sequels

Cameron says that he wanted high dynamic range and high frame rate options for the two movies, and the Sony Venice supports this flexibility. Cameron gives the Sony kit, which was only released last September, some high praise, saying: “The Venice camera delivers the most astonishing image I’ve ever seen. The blacks are rich, deep and velvety, the highlights and source lights are amazingly bright. For the first time, we truly appreciate what the term high dynamic range means.”

What I’ve discovered over the past couple days is that if I get to Birmingham on one of my travels I wouldn’t mind sharing a meal with mrtickleuk

Archer said "by the end of the week" in his article.

If memory serves me correct on this long day, I believe the Sony DV firmware went up today on Oppos website. Seen a picture on Twitter of the firmware details.

What’s the fine guy up to these days, is he still active?

Anyway, give me a few moments to find a reference link in order to fully reply to your post.

He replaced all his Kuros with Sony oleds last year. Believe he said he was going to be part of the VE shootout this year and help make some changes.

And while up there ^ , for those also traveling over to Dolby HQ in San Francisco for a visit, check out the short surfing film remastered in Dolby Vision playing in the lobby –

^ filmed in Hawaii < note to jibucha, I think when one underlines something, by convention, it implies people should click on it to go to a hyperlink for further reference. I did so with your post above but it went nowhere.

Time to head over to the trailhead, later.

ray, if DD still secretly carries a torch for the Kuro, that last phrase scares me a little . Before beginning his presentation, will he command everyone at the shootout to wear one of these? -

P.S.
I’m kidding, now please don’t any of DeWayne’s fans send me a complaint PM voicing their support.

I would have given an earlier heads-up, but Geoff seems to me to always be busy in one of the other hardware or dedicated movie threads trying to convince the disbelievers of something or other when year after year I tell him, it don’t matter and not to sacrifice himself for in the end, the last guy always gets credit….
