I hated it initially with the first Hobbit but I've come around to it somewhat, even though I think it's something which should be used maybe for a few films a year and doesn't fit most.

One big issue is it becomes more apparent that you are watching a set and make-up, but it works better in a real world setting like Billy Lynn than a fantasy one like Hobbit (although they did improve the HFR color grading on Hobbit sequels which helped); and actually the minimal HFR (30 fps) works really well on the Oklahoma Blu given how much of the film is based on dance/movement and as it's based on a stage show some of the more obvious sets seem fitting.

Very interested to see how the native 60 fps film will look to me (soap opera mode minus the artifacts I reckon). I've enjoyed playing a lot of pc games at 60fps over the years though I don't think those count

I don't actually mind the SOE effect in small doses, I've mentioned before how I use the Motionflow Clear setting (black frame insertion + mild interpolation) on my Sony TV when watching the Hobbitses. I don't go full soap opera as it really does look weird, but as you rightly say the processing artefacts are just as distracting if not more so than the SOE itself.

But razor-sharp native 4K 60p content? Bring it the hell on.

Am also keeping an open mind, and speaking of that this being a Sony release really puts the mind at ease, all of their UHD BD releases from what I've (we've) seen so far have looked superb. I expect Mr. Lynn to follow suit. Can't wait.

How is the movie itself, it's more of a war drama rather than action? For some reason I haven't seen any trailers yet. If the movie is any good and the PQ too ofcourse, I would usually consider buying this but I really hate anything higher than 24p for cinematic pictures.

I saw the first Hobbit in theaters in HFR and I absolutely hated it, it looked all so fake and video-ish, imagine having to sit through this the whole movie. It really took me out of it and I did not get used to it, this is truly my most horibble movie experience because of that.

So even if this movie is any good and the PQ is demo material, I don't think this will be for me. I sincerely hope this is not becoming a trend. If James Cameron is contemplating shooting those Avatar sequels in HFR, he can call it quits as far as I'm concerned...

The film itself is very average. It is occasionally very funny, sometimes overly sentimental, and overall a little muddled. It can't really stick to straight "dark comedy" or "serious drama" or "satire." I don't know if Ang Lee was the right fit for this. Maybe David Fincher could have made it work.

The HFR was used in a fascinating way. The camera doesn't move that much, and the film is sometimes literally from Billy Lynn's POV, so the ramped-up look works in intense situations like the battlefield or the halftime show. I saw it in 2D/24 FPS and 3D/120 FPS and think it works best with the high frame rate.

I appreciate the movie for the effort and style. I also have a bad habit of becoming fascinated with content I don't really like and wasting money/effort on them haha.

The film has divided critics and audience alike. Seems from everything I've seen (and I think it all looks fantastic), and having read the book, that Lee is going more for the emotion than the satire, which I'm fine with, and I don't know, it just seems like one of those movies, more than others, that either connects with you or doesn't.

Here's an article by the original author of the novel, sharing their interpretation of Ang Lee's interpretation:

https://www.theguardian.com/books/20...n-ben-fountain

Can't wait to see this in a few days. The reviews have been mixed but it does sound like it'll be a unique experience for sure. I was kicking myself for living in LA and still missing it in 120p 3D but TGF4K.

After reading this review here http://whysoblu.com/billy-lynns-long...lu-ray-review/ I am curious about this one only because of the frame rate. The movie itself does not look interesting. Oh well. I will wait on this one to drop in the price department before splurging.
