Had a restless night sleep thanks to my son and the new job. My head is pounding and my stomach is in knots. Hoping that my first day is fairly uneventful and a good one. Because I need this to work out.

My brother and I haven't been to a movie theater since we saw Halloween last October. We scaled back due to a combination of rising ticket prices, rising audience annoyance, and the bit of a drive we have to get there in the first place, but still planned to see at least a couple movies a year, ones that were highest priority for us. So I looked up showtimes earlier for Hobbs & Shaw since my brother has today off and we'd been wanting to see it. Turns out our local Regal Cinema theaters have now converted to reserved seating, so I guess we won't be going to the theater at all anymore and will just wait to rent new releases. I hate reserved seating.

I love traveling. I love traveling so much. I love talking about traveling, thinking about traveling, listening about...mostly talking about traveling
![]() I've been there twice (Ireland in '13, Germany & Austria in '15) and '17 should have been my third trip but then my world came crumbling down ![]() I have no idea where I would go. I don't know if I would pick a big city or a small town. If I were to go to a place that I've already been, it would probably be between Berlin and Salzburg, Austria. I know I'd love the idea of visiting Prague and doing some touristy stuff for a week and then spending another week just living like a local and sitting in cafes and reading and people watching and trying to avoid contact with everyone around me. Who needs all that socializing and human contact? ![]() But anyway, I love traveling so much that it was fun just to post this thread and considering the chance that I may be able to make it back. I have fond memories from my two previous trips and would love to make some more. One kind of funny story that I'll keep short. Somewhere in Vienna, there is an Asian woman walking around with a picture of me on her phone thinking I'm Ryan Reynolds ![]() If you were to take a vacation next year, where would you go? |

If I were you, given the ease with which you can use the ferry and the abundance of public transportation in England and Scotland, I'd do Ireland, hop over to Wales, England and finish up in Scotland, or reverse all that. Keep England in the middle though, since it can be hectic and you are presumably looking to relax. If you just want to do one, Ireland, no contest. One of the many reasons we stopped bothering with movie theaters. With a huge screen, nice set-up, and the ability to lock a door, you can have your own theater and you don't have to share. |

Lol. The point of reserved theater seating is to be able to pick the best seat in advance and have that seat waiting for you when you arrive. No more running late and walking into a full theater with the only seats available way up front. Reserved seating is the best thing to happen to movie-going since stadium seating! One thing I hated about going to the movies was finding a seat. Usually, all the best seats (the middle) were already taken. Another perk of reserved seating is you get a comfortable reclining seat and more room in front in case you have to get up and use the restroom. Seriously, how can anybody not like that??

Also, I know quite a few peeps online who live abroad so my next trip may end up being for the purpose of meeting one of them. I met a guy that I hel source movies for while I was in Germany. He lives just outside Stuttgart and let me stay with him and his family for four days which was really cool. I've know (online) this girl named Barbara for over ten years and she's from Ljubljana, Slovenia so I'd definitely like to meet her one day. Regarding your trip with visiting the UK, if I were to visit Ireland, I would just stick there for the duration of the trip. I would love to get back to Dublin someday. Here are the countries I was considering for my '17 trip. Had I gone, I would have picked only one of the countries. I didn't buy these books but had I gone on my trip, I most likely would have picked one up. They didn't have a DK book for the whole Czech Republic but I would have planned on seeing more than just Prague. As for the UK, I would have started with England and perhaps just stayed there or ventured further up to Scotland and Wales. [Show spoiler]

If you choose Sweden, you better love fish, all kinds of fish, and not expect desert or coffee to be sweetened above minimal levels. Also, it is very modern, so not very pretty, unless you love modernist minimalist everything, until you go out into the more rural areas, where it is quite pretty. They have some very interesting electricity and water saving technology, a bit different from Germany, so you can see some of that, but it is only entertaining for a day or so, unless you are a hard environmentalist, which I'm not, so boring on that front as well. That being said, if you are down to Sweden or Norway, there is a bit more to see in Sweden. As to Prague, it was great twenty years ago. I'd do some research before going there, unless you are twenty years old, then you might love it. For a vacation, it has a lot to offer the young. For an older person, it has many irritations, such as noise. |

Lol. I didn't realize adults actually liked being told where to sit. If you can't make it to a movie on time, that's your problem. The world ain't fair. Is sitting just off center in a movie theater really going to kill it that much for you? Really? Come on, now. I've had to sit along the wall numerous times as well as all the way in the front row. Never bothered me. I still got to see the movie I paid for. Reserved seating is retarded.

I also love to travel. Not as much as I used to because of all the airport security hassles but flying isn't the only travel option. I did a cross-country jaunt via ground transportation in the early 2000's and I loved it - once on Amtrak and the second time on Greyhound. Both trips took 2 1/2 days. But, yeah, generally I enjoy visiting places that I don't get to see every day.

Reserved seating isn't like a lottery system - you can pick your own seat. You just do it BEFORE you enter the theater. Why is everyone having a hard time comprehending this?
