I have to admit, it was cool. Obviously this is the first iteration, which will undoubtedly evolve into something smoother and easier to use, with more features. Right now it feels very gimmicky, but that might also be because it was a tech demo from Apple. The employee was super cool, though, and went beyond the obvious script, which made it more enjoyable. That said, once the initial feeling of "cool new tech" wore off, I think I not only went back into my old view of thinking it was useless and scary, but kinda doubled down on it. For whatever reason lately, I've been morphing into that crotchety old person who misses the good old days and how simple everything seemed. Or at least not having the entire world and its knowledge at your fingertips, so things just seemed simpler and had more nuance. I grew up in the late 90's, so it doesn't even feel that long ago! But it was fleeting, because in my lifetime alone, there's been such change and progress every few years. I'm all for technology at times. Living in NY, I'm not gonna do much else while I'm on the subway, other than listen to music and zone out, so I might play a game or something. Music is arguably my biggest vice, and having it so handy has saved my life on multiple occasions (not to mention maps and getting places, which I'm utterly hopeless without) But when people bring phones to social settings, or, as has become a sad regularity in my life recently, when I get together with someone to hang out, and one or both of us is on our phone the whole time (often while the TV is also on, and we're ignoring that), it just feels sad. It's no longer an accessory, it's a necessity. We don't use it to further our lives, we use it to live them. And the Apple Vision Pro is supposed to either work in tandem, or replace a lot of existing tech. You can text using it, you can watch movies or videos, etc. So either it'll render our TVs useless eventually, or you'll have people with oddly bare homes, because they just watch TV through this headset that projects it onto the wall of their home (on the screen of the headset, not the actual wall). It does everything that we can already do, just in a smaller, all-in-one kind of thing. I've seen a few people using them out in public, and they just look ridiculous. They're in their own little world, even moreso than now with people on their phones. They're literally and figuratively detached (not to mention the blind spot the headset creates, making them an easy target). I don't know what I'm trying to say here, other than it all feels oddly dystopian. I'm all for progress and forward momentum, but it doesn't feel like we can, or even want to, stop. There's no pinnacle for us, and we're quite quickly evolving (or devolving, depending on how you look at it) into a lot of those sci-fi films where everyone is fat and lazy and glued to a screen. There's no moment where we're not reliant on this stuff, and it's beginning to feel oddly hopeless in a way. I know my boyfriend, and even a couple of my friends, want me to get an Apple Vision Pro, but I just don't see myself ever wanting one. We're already tightly treading that line of being too detached, and I feel like this just takes us over that line. Unless we reach the point in my lifetime where you literally can't do things without it, I don't see the appeal of it. And even then I'll give in begrudgingly. And I hate that I'm becoming the very people that I used to make fun of as a kid- the naysayers, the ones who complain about the "good old days", but like, where does it end? Do we just keep going until technology destroys us? How long until I start yelling at people to get off my non-existent lawn? Or yelling at clouds? |

Nice write up! I have a few friends like that as well who will go after the newest and greatest tech no matter what. I think the Vision Pro is revolutionary but very niche-although I have yet to test drive one. In any case, I feel like passing on the first iteration is a wise move considering the high price point. These will only get smaller, lighter and cheaper (hopefully) over the coming years. However, I can see many businesses utilizing them for the sake of multitasking.
I’m not sure how I would feel riding the subway wearing one. I believe these are customized to the user and they even need your eye prescription, but that won’t deter criminals from tearing these off your head. With that being said, If these are the future when it comes to watching movies…I’m out. ![]() “If you're playing the movie on a telephone, you will never in a trillion years experience the film. You'll think you have experienced it, but you'll be cheated. It's such a sadness, that you think you've seen a film, on your f**king telephone. Get real.” - David Lynch |

And you would know, considering you live in the ricer capital of the world!
Watched this last night on AppleTV+* ![]() Unfortunately the reviews were quite accurate. This is a dud of a film and very underwhelming. Do not watch this expecting Gladiator. Not sure if Ridley will put out some sort of extended cut but I doubt it will help it. *Best Buy is offering members 3 months free of AppleTV+, use this link. https://slickdeals.net/f/17244172-ap...-best-buy-0-00 Last edited by sfmarine; 03-01-2024 at 11:07 PM. |

![]() Got a basic Audio Technica from Walmart and prolly have a few dozen now or so. I really like their annual $15 sale, but their exclusive pressings seem to be low quality and hit or miss. |

I would not call it stupid. It actually started off great with a guillotine scene!
The film is just messy trying to pack three decades of history intermixed with a tedious love story and mediocre score. It was better off being a 10-part series on HBO, Netflix, etc. |

That's why I prefer mini-series for biopics. Films can only be so long before they need to be broken up into 2 parts and shown separately. Singular projects are a condensed version and omit a lot of nuance and context and just show "the good stuff".

What does it mean when a Blu-ray disc isn't "finalized"? I had to refund a customer's money for a Blu-ray disc they claimed was useless because it wasn't finalized
