You volunteer at a food bank? That’s really cool, man. Respect.

Yeah when it works with my schedule I go down to my parents' church and help load food into people's cars.

9.25 hours, 9.25 hours, 9.4 hours and tomorrow about 8 hours. Good start to the first week at my new 40+ hour a week job.

All right gents...I'm back from a little vacay. I hope everyone is well.

So...things went good until I was pulled over by a dramatic and condescending NJ State Trooper on the way home. He was a young dude...probably 23 and fresh out of the academy.

What did I do? Well...he got me for "improper passing" but when you break it down it's rather laughable and ridiculous.

On the way back traffic was backed up in a rural area. Just a basic two-lane road. I could not see what was going on as it was backed up over a hill. So I sat in traffic for a few mins. My GPS was like "hey...we found a faster route" and I looked at it but it appeared to be a strange and long detour around a lake, so I ignored it. It wanted me to take the next right, but I did not see the road yet. We moved up a bit more and suddenly cars start passing me on the right including a riced out Purple Honda Civic with a huge wing. I saw the road and thought..."ah hell..might as well" and went into the shoulder (which was wide as the main road) to make the turn. The road was not far away at all and I cannot recall how long it was but all I can say was it was not excessive at all. This all happened in less than a minute. I make the turn and next thing I know a cop is in back of me lighting me up. I thought he was going to the accident.

Not knowing I did anything wrong, he asked me why I took the shoulder and I told him the GPS re-routed me that way and other cars were going too. I mentioned the purple Civic and how it was like 25 feet and he said "NO IT WASN'T!" So I just stopped talking after that as this guy was on a power trip. He acted as though it was a freaking mile.

I gave him my registration and license. I feel like he went after me because I was out of state. The Civic had NJ plates and actually turned into a business parking lot before me, so the Trooper could have easily pulled both of us over. Ironically the Civic passed me as I was pulled over.

So he came back and basically threw the ticket at me. He did not go over it or wish me a good day. This dude was so unprofessional. I honestly had no idea if I was free to go as he went back to his vehicle, so I just sat there. I was tempted to get out of the car and be like "so are we done..can I go now?' Before I could, he then drove off like a bat out of hell back towards the traffic. I'm guessing to go after other people doing the same thing.

He wrote me a ticket for $86 which doesn't seem like much at all. It comes with 4 points but because it happened out of State, they will not transfer onto my license as my State really only cares about DUI offenses and vehicular homicide cases.

It's also worth mentioning that speeding in NJ by exceeding 15-29 MPH over the posted limit is a 4-point offense. Only I wasn't speeding. I was making a right turn lol. The cop also did not take into account that my record is clean. I've never even gotten a speeding ticket or been in a freaking accident.

Makes no sense that they are equivalent offenses (based on the points system) considering how dangerous speeding can be. I was going a few feet to make a turn and playing follow the leader.

In the end, I don't know why he didn't just issue me a warning given the circumstances. Out of state factor comes into play + the fact that he went after no one else including the big purple Barney car. For what it's worth, I doubt many cops access your driving record but usually they can tell if it's been your first, second offense, etc.

So I thought about pleading not guilty and going to court, but is it really worth it for $86? The whole "it gets thrown out if the cop doesn't show" won't work as the municipal court building is right across the street from the station. It's also his word against mine. I wish I recorded the interaction. I should probably invest in a dash cam as well.

Plus I did not like this guy at all and do not wish to see him ever again. He was so high on his power that he would probably pull someone over for going 57 in a 55. Had the fine been more and I would be getting points then yeah..maybe it would be worth it to go to court. The funny thing is I've been receiving letters from lawyers willing to represent me! Probably received half a dozen so far. So pay a lawyer $500 for a $86 fine? NJ is so weird.

Thoughts?

Thanks for reading. Drive safe out there!

Solid! Don't forget to add that under the "Volunteer" section on your resume.

I may but I don't know how much lifting food once in awhile at a food bank will help with job hunting.

No! It's not what you do at a food bank or any volunteer. It's the fact you take time out of your day to help out. Your free time is valuable and you're giving your free time that you can be using to train (you're a marathoner, right?) or even taking time away from sitting at home playing PS5 after a long week at work.

If I was interviewing you and you told me "I just help lift food." I automatically assume you're a very humble guy doing all above what I just said and also helping people who otherwise may not be able to pick up heavy items themselves.

That's character, dude. 100%.

They've been running that promo every Friday for months. It's not new. They also do free 6 piece nuggets on Wednesday with any purchase.

I really wish restaurants would sell more sweet potato fries, always preferred those greatly to white potato fries.

First thing that comes to mind is you have somehow been exposed primarily to bad potato fries

I just find them healthier and tastier.

I usually don't do 7 minute tests for job applications but I would consider a job at a daycare as an instructor as a step in the right direction for my career so I did the test anyway.

It's really not worth fighting the ticket. Whatever his reason, he pulled you over and what you did was wrong. Some people get a serious attitude when they put that uniform on. Luckily, on the couple of occasions I've had interactions with the police, they've been positive. Maybe Canadian police are nicer? At least your fine isn't too expensive.

It still amazes me that cops get little to no training in dealing with mental health issues, considering how frequently they're probably called in to respond to intellectually disabled people in a crisis.

I missed that but did see they’ve got new “spicy” drinks. Not sure if I would like that. I like spice but not in my drinks. Their refreshers are mighty refreshing though…my favorite is the mango dragonfruit lemonade. Perfect to have after a round of golf.

Happy Garlic Day! I’ll just wait for their next BOGO.
