Just got back from picking up a Uhaul for hauling rocks.
The lady helping me was attractive and there was sparks between us. We flirted a bit and I know that if I asked, we could’ve gone out or something.
Problem is, she is much too young for me, dammit!
It sucks getting old!

A lot of people mistake being nice for flirting. Are you sure?

Maybe she'll be there when you return it. You should have told her you're digging up some bodies from your backyard and asked her if she wanted to help

I couldn't find as much as I had hoped, the rest may be lost in the Garage Attic

Here's pictures of the trip along the lake, I always had to check to make sure I was holding them upright or not

[Show spoiler]

Here is the little Church at the end of the lake..

[Show spoiler]

And a picture of the interior of that Church along with one of 1985 me and our Lieutenant
She was the Officer in charge of our Trip and I was the Senor NCO, so we kind of just spend the whole time together

We had just finished watching TOP GUN, before taking the Cable Car up the Obersalzberg ..
Yuuup! .. This is where I actually saw Top Gun, and at the same time it had been released in the States

[Show spoiler]

And 1 last pic of the lovely Lt.

[Show spoiler]

And just as a comparison to the 1985 me here is what I look like these days.

#1 is right away my last haircut, and how I normally look..

[Show spoiler]

#2 is just a few days ago
I had been set to get it cut, but it turned out to be on the same day our Governor shut them down
This is the longest I've ever gone without a haircut

My Stylist did call and said our Shops are opening back now, and I have an appointment for May 26th...

[Show spoiler]
Beautiful pictures buddy! Thanks for posting them. I hope that you are able to find your other pictures and if you do, I hope that you'll post some more. Digital cameras are really wonderful but I wish I had real pictures like you that I could put into a real album. I'd love to go back with a GoPro and mount it on the roof of a car and drive through the Alps again.

Do you happen to remember the name of the lake you were at? Okay wow, as I'm typing this, I quickly pop over to another tab and Google "Alpine chapel in Berchtesgaden, Germany" and your church is at the top of the page! It's St. Bartholomew's Church and the lake is Königssee. I did not see that church but I wish I had. The one that I visited that's in the calendar is the Maria Gern Chapel.

Do you still keep in touch with the Lt.?

I didn't realize that till I saw my Post quoted back at me

No.... It's like that in the Military, meet people become good friends and get shipped out and never see one another again..
Plus besides me being an NCO and her being an Officer, there are certain protocols and flat out regulations about fraternizing.

Not to mention about 2 weeks after that trip her boyfriend ( also a Lt. ) was transferred into our unit as well.
( I knew he was coming, she and I talked about it )
she even went out of her way to come ( with him in tow ) to introduce him to me... ( we worked in opposite ends of the same big building )

So what little time we did spend together kind of had to stop.
We still saw each other during Businesses hours, and sometimes after.
It's a small world for the Military stationed oversea's, you see each other often even after work hours..

The fact that we were seen together and hung out more than seemed normal wasn't lost on those around me,
it was mentioned to me by my friends. ( But, I never admitted to them anything inappropriate )

When I left to come back stateside she we still involved with her boyfriend, I would like to think that they got married and still are...

Oh 2 more places I visited during that trip was

1: The 1986 Munich Oktoberfest
I still have my 1 liter Mug from that, I'll post a picture of it below
[Show spoiler]

2: Dachau Concentration Camp
I’m not an overly Religious man or a very Superstitious one....
But the whole time I was there I felt very odd, like I was being enveloped ( pressed upon by something ) I even teared up a little while there.
I swear it seemed like I could feel the people that had been there ( I know, I know, but still it felt very odd )

Even thinking about it now puts me in a mood I do not want to be in, my eye's are watering just reflecting on it..... sorry

The pack of pictures I'm missing have all the pictures from both the Oktoberfest and Dachau in them..

There are 3 types of people:
1. George Orwell
2. Aldous Huxley
3. Andy Kaufman

If anyone has significant reach on twitter, run a poll with the only context: Choose Your Fighter. I think it'd be interesting.

Kaufman. Pretty sure by your sense of humor, you'd be fine switching between Orwell and Huxley depending on your mood. Only a Kaufman can do that.

I've never in my life been able to relate to the type of person--my ex, for example--whom always has to be out doing something and can't tolerate sitting at home on occasion.

That is, I've never been able to relate until now, when I'm at the most profoundly unhappy point in my life... Perhaps this is why my ex could never stand sitting at home?

This virus forcing me to sit at home and stew in my misery sucks all teh ass. Hiking or the occasional fishing outing comprise my only alternatives at present. Bleh

before the bullshit, you could go out and do stuff any time you please. even if you didn't, the chance was always there. now that you can't, it makes it that much more of a "want" to go out and do stuff.

which brings me to...how can going outside and doing things be not ok (in the eyes of local gov't morons)? if you're outside, it's fairly easy to do the whole social distancing thing (i REALLY hate that term, btw...a made-up term for a bullshit reason).
like the guy who was arrested because he was out in the ocean paddle-boarding. he was the only person out there within a pretty good distance...and some ******* decided they needed to butt into his life and call the cops on him. if he's the only person out there, and i'm a cop who's responding, i'm probably going to applaud him and go about my day of not caring about stupid bullshit.
i'm a firm believer of myofb and don't insert yourself into other people's affairs unless it directly affects you. someone in the ocean...paddle-boarding...when NO ONE else is around...is NONE of anyone else's business except the person who's paddle-boarding.
just like a mom taking her kid to the park and not being around other people is no one else's business.

I remember a great point from Chris Hardwick (yeah, that Chris Hardwick), where he wonders why he is so intentionally busy all the time, and he fears it's because if he ever had time to stop and truly consider nothing but his life and his worth in the grand scheme of things, it would bring profoundly depressing and dangerous thoughts of despair to him.

Days like today are where its hard for me.
No friends left. Either all moved away out of state or have died. We're not even 40 yet. Later this year, yeah. But now? No.
Nice weather always brings me back to my early teens to early 20s days.
I used to be so active and now I can barely walk.

I had liked this post after you first left it but before you edited it. I actually read the extended post the other day but just now replying. I'm glad you did add on and include the picture. I believe I have two glasses from Germany but I didn't bring back any steins and certainly no cuckoo clocks although I did go into a nice little shop in Freudenstadt (in the Black Forest) that had several nice (and expensive!) clocks. If I could go back and bring one home with me, hell I'd probably do it.

I was in Germany during Oktoberfest as well but I am a NON drinker so I didn't sip any frosty beverages other than those Diet Cokes and apple juices that I had with me when Polize pulled me over haha I was actually up north in Berlin and Leipzig when the fest was going on and as you know, it's celebrated more down South in Bavaria. I did go to the Volksfest in Stuttgart one day though. That's the second largest beer festival in the world. I had gone to the Mercedes Benz museum that day and decided to check out the festival afterward.

I think I mentioned it before but for some reason, I didn't have quite the experience with Dachau that you did. I don't know why and I realized it at the time. I wish I had felt more emotional. I think I mentioned in a previous post that I did spend a LONG time in the museum. When I first was walking through, I was reading every single placard and piece of info that I could.

I did Google Mannheim and Frankfurt to see them on the map so I could know exactly where they are. How long were you stationed there for?

Again, please post all the pics you can find. Do you like looking at your old pictures as much as I looking at vacation pictures? Do you have any desire to return one day?

I'll include one pic of Schloss Moritzburg. I stopped here when I was staying in Leipzig and did a day trip to Dresden. Nice little palace surrounded by a beautiful lake and wooded area.
