Going to be venturing into a Best Buy for the first time in a couple of years for a new HDMI cable this morning. Interested in seeing what the movie section looks like. I don't expect much.

A bunch of people in the northeast would still be alive if America didn't enforce single use zoning almost everywhere. The car-obsessed city planning makes everything farther away.

Authorities: "Stay inside."

People: "I need food."

Just out of curiosity, how do you guys celebrate New Year's Eve? I ask because, every year, I tell myself I want to do something different or special but I always end up staying home and watching the Times Square ball drop on TV. Dunno, I just feel like, for certain holidays, I should make an effort to socialize and be somewhere other than home. Thing is, as I get older, I feel way more comfortable lounging around in a T shirt and sweat pants in the comfort and warmth of my apartment. If I go out, it's just me shuffling around crowds fake smiling and watching the clock, then nothing. I'm just so over it.

Sometimes I sleep through it. Sometimes I am watching a movie. I see the time switch over and that's that. Another day here.

Like most days, I stay in and listen to tunes and watch some flicks on NYE. I don't drink alcohol so I am not much fun and I hate being around drunks.

I don't know what's wrong with me, I don't ordinarily add anything to my morning coffee but this morning I added a milk AND sugar. I didn't realize what I was doing until after I did it. Strangest thing is I gave up raw sugar (for most part) about 10 years ago.

New Years Day is just another day for me. I can't remember the last time I actually went out and celebrated, some years I stay up to watch the Times Square ball drop, some years I just catch the coverage on my way to work. This year will be the latter, I have to work this weekend.

I have a tradition where on New Year's Eve, at the turn of midnight (by this point the fireworks have already been going off early), I let the old year out and let the new year in. I watch the fireworks show along the Thames on the TV, and record at 5 am UK time (to watch later on on New Year's Day) the brief few minutes of the New York Times Square celebrations (it varies from year to year on the BBC News channel. Sometimes they show around five minutes' worth after the jewelled ball comes down and you hear most of (Theme from) New York, New York by Frank Sinatra. And some years they show very little of the celebrations (it's become another New Year's tradition for me watching a bit of the New York Times Square celebrations on TV).

Last day (of the year of our Lord, 2022).

Which reminds me, I've been meaning to revisit Logan's Run

Tomorrow night (Jan 1) will be the 20th anniversary of my first suicide attempt. Kinda glad to still be here now.

Brother wanted to try out Indivisible in my room. This anime RPG. Starts out in a village. You're a teen girl. After walking through the village in the opening and coming to a small clearing, she gets in an inexplicable altercation with her dad. Dad walks away. I joked to my brother that her village will probably burn now and that her dad will die in her arms because they had a fight. We laughed our asses off when I was right on both cliches. Deleted the game.

Well, it really is just a transition period, not an actual holiday, although it's treated as such by the government. I have fond memories of spending NYE at some family members' house with lots of other people and having a nice time. I haven't celebrated the transition like that in more than 30 years with a couple of exceptions. I just wish I could muster up the enthusiasm to plan my own celebration and see the year out in style for a change instead of setting the alarm for 11:45 PM, watching the ball drop on TV and going back to sleep at 12:10

The fam and I do board games every New Year's so we did that last night and today- Monopoly is always a looooooong affair and my son and I dug into the lego sets he got for Xmas. We're always kinda holidayed out by New Year's Eve so we lay low. My personal New Year's Eve tradition is to make sure I stay up and watch The Hudsucker Proxy- I practically have it memorized, but it brings me joy.

Finishing my week plus long vacation and going back in tonight. I enjoy my job.

I watched 34+ movies and some were 3+ hours long.
Didn't get any cleaning done. (oh well)
Cooked a few more times than I would have.
Had dinner with the family.
Rearranged my movies and tv shows.

It was a nice relaxing time but I am ready to go back to work.
