Well of course you wouldn't see, you wouldn't be there!

of course my package coming from a different Amazon depot tonight is delayed. It's not coming from Iowa City so it's not one of my new coworkers.

I was sitting here thinking......how much vacation time or PTO and/or sick days does everyone get with their employers? For a little background.....I work for a local bank as a paralegal. I have been in banking in various capacities for over 30 years, and I get 20 days of PTO/Sick days a year. I can carry over 5 of those days to next year (so I have to minimally take 15 of those 20 days every year), but those 5 carryover days have to be used by March 31st.

Currently, I have 19 total days remaining right now (yep, I have to use 14 of them in the next 3 months and I also get another 5 days off in those 3 months due to the bank being closed for a holiday), so I have to take 14 of those days between now and December 31st. I have no idea what to do with those days. I really don't have that much money where I can take trips away and furthermore, my 15 yr old son lives with me, so he has school.

Hmmm... I wonder what bank you work for.

I was in banking for a long time. Started late 2009. Have worked in banking since, in a variety of roles, until February 2024 - when I was laid off due to company performance. A long period of unemployment and then recently started an accounting job otuside banking a month ago. The PTO here is not great at all, especially being new. What you have sounds tremendous and I wish I was close to what you got, lol. I did use to run into that issue and I would just use vacation days to get stuff done around the house. I also enjoyed using days around most holidays to make a long weekend even longer.

Well, between your post and seeing the deals at the top, I just did another large order - second one this week. The other day I placed a large order through Shout Factory and just now a large order on Amazon for various Arrow releases. Gonna have to find some extra bucks.... oye

Like yourself, I lost my job at least 4 times working in the banking industry, but that was because of mergers and buyouts. It was always the bank I worked for that was merged or bought out = I lost my job. I have worked for all sizes of banks. Large banks like Santander Bank and Wachovia, and then regional banks and even as small as a start up bank. However, I have worked for 12 banks in 30+ years due to better job opportunities or those buy outs.

I will probably take a few days trips....I am an avid hiker. Hiking costs basically no money and keeps me young. Being a veteran, I can get into any National Park for free.

I have as much sick time and PTO time as I want. It's pretty much limitless. And there is no reasoning behind needing the time off if I want it. For the most part. See, I work for my family, helping to manage a local business. We once owned an office building in town where I was an on-site manager. We sold the building about nine years ago and now are tenants who lease space in the building. The spaces we lease have individual offices that we sublease. So now, I am a property manager. Because I work for my stepmom, I can take off for pretty much anything. It helps that I can work from home or my phone most of the time. If I decide that I want to take a half day to go see a movie, I generally can. It's pretty sweet. Take this week, for example. I've been home all week due to Covid. Of course, I would be home sick from any other job as well because of Covid. But the thing is, this doesn't count against my PTO or my sick days. I was out for a whole week back in January because of a big snowstorm. Didn't affect my PTO at all.

Still learning the rules of international soccer. I placed a bet on Barcelona to simply win their game today, and I guess they were given a red card 10 minutes into the game. I know a player is ejected, but I did not realize the team would have to play a man down. Sort of sticks... it's 1-1 right now at the half, so a win is still in play.
