It is with a heavy heart but also a grateful soul, that I'm reporting my beloved cousin Connie Sturrock Whittenton has passed away. I only knew her for six years, but she quickly became a "spiritual mother" to me, second only to my birth Mom. I was a complete emotional and mental basket case when I first moved here, but she found me a good doctor who helped me become more stable. What I really remember most though, are our conversations both on Facebook and at my home. I rarely visited where she lived, primarily due to personal reasons.

Almost three years ago, Connie was diagnosed with colon cancer, and for a long time she fought it bravely with all that she had. Even in moments of extreme physical pain and what must have been deep despair, she stuck it out...and I never once heard her blame God for her condition. But the majority of her life in total had been defined by pain, both physical and emotional. Above all else though, the one thing that defined Connie's life was her love for God and His Son Jesus Christ. I am choosing to be at peace myself, knowing she is finally with her Savior, freed from her numerous hardships. I love you Connie, and here's to eternity; give warm hugs to your Mom and mine, when you see them both. Always and forever - I will never forget you.

Sorry to hear, my condolences. My Aunt Rose, who had the same Birthday as me, 22 years before me, died from terminal cancer back in July.

Thanks; I actually wrote that about 6 weeks ago, when Connie's health got down to the wire. I didn't want to try and come up with something in the immediate aftermath, so I saved it on my computer and placed it on Facebook about 30 minutes ago.

I am very sorry, Moviefan2K4.

Without my even knowing her, I can feel the warmth of her smile from the nice picture that you included.

My deepest sympathies. I don't know what I would do if I lost my two remaining aunts. They are the coolest people. Hang in there and if you need anything let me know.

Thanks, I appreciate it. I was actually calm for the most part when my roommate told me, but my voice did break a little when I spoke with my younger sister not long after. Connie was truly a very special woman, full of a passion for others even while her own world was falling apart. She went through chemo a whopping 19 times, which shocks me even to write. But the most important thing now is that she's free, and home at last.

Preparing for a lunch meeting today, with a couple of old friends. I’m quite surprised to be asked; I don’t do social stuff, just don’t. One of them is a singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist that I have been friends and coworkers with since 1979 or so. The other fellow was our chief logistics guy when we were out playing shows. Maybe they want to rehash old times. I hope that’s all that it is, and not that anyone is unwell. I also hope not to hear any talk about playing shows. I don’t have any interest in live performances anymore, other than those in my downstairs studios.

Man, I've never played a live show in my live. Unless you count those two times in songwriting class. If I did though, I don't know how I could ever give it up. There's something so wondrous and magical about a live show. Of course, I'm not on the other end and playing up there, but I can just imagine it would be so much fun. To just lose yourself in the music. Standing there playing & singing as though you are the only one in the room. And you just have to play because it's the only time you feel truly yourself. i envy you, my friend.

Well, turns out that the lunch meeting was just to hang out. I am relieved. However, I hope that my cohorts do not expect this to be a recurring event for me; meeting and chatting about stuff has never ever appealed to me in any way. It’s one of the main reasons why I chose music as self-expression; because I am very uncomfortable in social situations. I go out for groceries, but not coffee. And it makes me feel old as hell, too. My old man goes for coffee with his pals a couple times every month. That’s one old-man-ism I have no interest in.
