Trying to figure out why I almost rolled over on my 11 year old this morning... I must have been extremely tired last night, as I don't recall her coming into my room not to mention climbing into bed with my fiancee & I.

She's been doing this quite a bit lately, and I'm starting to wonder what's wrong with her.

Yeah I'm aware of the MIT project....In context no that is not what she was talking about whatsoever. There is no context that talks about surveillance being a fact of life and bringing up cell phones and TV's (which everyone has) and then a damn MIT project. Seriously now. She was trying to make a claim based off things everyone has. Unfortunately for her a microwave cannot just become a camera....That's not how it works. Nobody can hack you microwave to become a camera.

Also do you realize that almost every article about this mentions the MIT project? It was researched...It just makes zero sense and isn't what she was talking about. If it is she is just as dumb because that MIT project is not a microwave in the sense of what you have in your damn kitchen. If she actually thought it was she has one braincell.

Thanks for the article from 12 years ago that's just another project...And no bearing on reality. Does anyone else not realize a microwave is not connected to the internet and has no ability to do so? Your smart TV and phone can be hacked to do surveillance...They have internet capabilities...Your microwave does not. You guys are posting pet projects by places on different things grasping at straws. Sure someone can make my toaster become a surveillance device if they wanted to, but my toaster can't be hacked to be a surveillance device like my tv, laptop, phone, and other connected devices can.

Overall it's nice to be off, but the dealing with the snowblowing and shoveling is quite a bit of work in and of itself. My grand am is buried right now.

Yup, looks blue or green, snow always looks peaceful until you go into it or try to clean it off. Can only imagine how people out here in the desert would react to feet of snow.

It's always crazy when you think of how snow affects different areas. 2 feet here is kinda crippling while 2 inches is absolutely nothing. Yet in a place like Atlanta 2 inches is crippling. Then you look at a place like Colorado where 2 feet is average at best. There is an area of Colorado that got 8 feet of snow of a 10 day period in January. Wtf do you do with 8 feet of snow?

I know Fridges have cameras in them so they can order what you are low on.

If she said refrigerator I wouldn't have said a damn thing. There are mass produced fridges with basically a tablet built in and are wifi connected...So damn right they can be hacked. However I'm pretty damn sure there is no mass produced microwave of any way that has wifi. There is odds and ends crap like this http://iotlist.co/posts/maid-smart-microwave-oven which can't be purchased in store. However the stuff that 99.9% of people have is a regular old microwave with no means of connecting to the internet at all. When she said tvs, phones, and microwaves she's specifically calling out things that basically everyone has...A fear tactic. However it is not "just a fact of modern life" as she put it.

Oh I was just wondering because I have been to both places. Where did you move from? Are you going to try and find someone there to talk to? I was seeing someone at the VA for awhile but since I moved out of the Bay Area, I haven't been back.
