I think it's just one of those US/UK spelling alternatives. Take colour for example - this is the accepted way of spelling it in the UK and many other English speaking (Commonwealth) countries, but in all honesty I've seen 'color' spelt this way over here too.

The same with some words which we spell with an 's' at the end of a word and the US spells it with a 'z', for example colonise (UK) and colonize (US). As to how these differences occurred in the first place goes back several centuries. Even in the UK, there are some words which were spelt slightly differently in 'Old English' than they are today.

Is it wrong to buy myself three movie tickets when I know I'm going alone, and then right before the movie starts, return the other two so I have an open seat on both sides of me?

I used to work at the theater I'm talking about, and employees would do it all the time. Every employee could get anywhere from 2-4 free tickets per show, depending on their position, and they would always get extras just to have open seats around them.

Reserved movie theater seating is a blessing - until someone asks if you could move down so that a family or couple could sit together. Ugh. Has anyone had someone occupy their reserved seat upon arrival?

If you return them, they could be resold at the last minute and then you’d have people next to you.

Better to just keep them.

Refuse. Tell them it’s your reserved seat, and if they wanted to sit together they should have reserved in advance instead of just showing up.

Heh if everyone was that lazy, I wonder how long it would take people at this office to notice. Might be awhile, one of the laziest employees I've ever known got a hard worker award of some kind recently.

That's the million dollar question. We also have lots of recent hires (last 3 years) that are completely catered to. They're brought on to fill a specific need in the bindery. Be it run a saddle stitcher, run a muli pocket collator and other things. They just start calling off and then when they do actually come in say they get dizzy when they stand. They're then put on sit down jobs all day.

Then there's me with an oxygen tank at my work station and nobody gives two flying shits.

It's absolutely unbelievable to me. The position I'm in is that a lot of open jobs in my area would be a substantial pay cut. You can bet your ass I'm looking but I'm also not going to take a pay cut if I don't have to.

I really think the place will be closed in 5 years or less. Once certain family and friends retire I don't think it'll be around long.

No one has so far, but my local theater will refund un-ripped tickets even after the showtime has passed. So I could keep them and return them after the movie ends..

Somewhat related: I heard about some kids at one of my local theaters doing the ‘unlimited Fandango free tickets’ scheme and I’m wondering how long it takes until they get caught. They buy a ticket on Fandango, get to the theater early, get their ticket ripped and go into the theater, then go on the app and request a refund for the ticket. So now they’re sitting in the theater but because the movie hasn’t started yet, fandango has given them a refund.
