why would it, if that's what they are and preferred to be called that?

no black person i know or worked with wanted to be called african or afircan-american. they wanted to be called black. hell, none of them that i knew had ever even BEEN to africa.

Saying 'My friend Jon is black' is different. Doesn't sound racist at all. Saying 'My friend Jon is a black' sounds totally racist. It's the addition of the 'a'.

i guess i just have a different relationship with all the people i know that are black. hell, we used to joke around about all the time. but it'd go both ways. they'd call me cracker/honky/whatever..i'd call them black/blacky/darky...and we'd be cool. they knew and i knew it was all in jest and not at all serious.

but if people get offended at a word, i guess that's their problem. actions are different, words are just air.

It’s called proper sentence structure. “A” or “An” (depending on the next word in the sentence) is correct. If I started the sentence with the word “black” that would be an improper sentence.

You could, you know, throw the word person in there. They are people.

'A black works with me.' vs. 'A black person works with me.'

or...

'I gave my candy bar to a black.' vs. 'I gave my candy bar to a black person.'

I feel like you’re just being pedantic for the sake of being pedantic. I changed the original post you complained about, but then your reason for the complaint (that I put an "a" there), in my opinion, is a silly one. It would ruin the entire sentence to NOT put an "a" there.

And now you’re trying to continue with this with more oddities. You don’t seem concerned that I put "an Asian" instead of "an Asian person" but you are with black? Do you see how facetious you’re getting?

Plus, I capitalize the "B" which is something I’ve been told by a few Black people, you should do when referring to a person (as opposed to a color). But you left the "B" lower case, so whose really the person in the wrong now?

I "inherited" (more like rescued) a 3-yr.-old Shih Tzu mix who is addicted to chicken wings - and they have to be from the Chinese restaurant! It's literally all she'll eat. Well, not literally - I was feeding her Caesar's wet dog food for a while until she stopped touching it. I even tried to give her Vienna's sausages, which she liked at first but now she also won't touch them unless it's ALL there is to eat. And she just sits there and stares at me while I'm eating my own food. I'm at my wits end. Suggestions?

Could possibly be that previous owners may have fed her from table??
