if so, you'll need to put the shims on the TOP hinge to bring that part down....not on the bottom hinge. BUT...if that makes the bottom of the door rub on the floor, then you may need to remove the door and do some trimming, anyway. i know you said you don't want to do that as they're original. but that won't take anything away from them (no pun intended). as i said in a previous post, we had to cut our new doors to fit the opening since the house had settled so much over the years. you may have to do that, as well, unfortunately. it's not a difficult task...just take your time if you have to do it. don't rush it and make sure the cut(s) are straight. and to make sure the cut is even with the floor and the opening is even, after you install the shims, measure the highest point of the bottom of the door (should be the hinge side), from the floor. then, take that measurement and transfer it to the opposite side (should be the knob side), measuring from the bottom of the door, upward, and draw a line from that point (knob side) to the opposite point (hinge side). and it looks like it's a solid door, so you won't have to worry about the bottom being open like you do with a hollow door. there's a trick to filling that hole, but yours looks solid so you don't have to worry about that. just make sure you paint the bottom of the door before you reinstall it. |

Thanks sk33tr, I’ll take a look at it decide how I’m going to fix it temporarily. It only seems to bother me and not the Mrs. who’s dog keeps pushing the door open

Today's the 5th anniversary of my car accident in Ireland. This fella is no longer with us but for one day, he was my knight in shining armor

Anyone ever feel like they are in a rut they can't get out of? I have so much to be happy for, but the last week or so I feel like life keeps smacking me in the face. So hard to crack a smile right now, but I know I shouldn't feel this way. I feel like everything is against me, and I just need something to turn things around for my mindset.

Right now, most of that is fading into a distant memory, because I moved out of that area last fall and entered a new job that genuinely makes me feel welcomed, respected, and empowered. I had to learn to stop spazzing out over things when I arrived--I must have seen certain things as threats. It's crazy how a negative state of mind can taint the environment we perceive and validate the bad in it. Nowadays I feel much more positive about life, but I couldn't have become this zen if I never removed myself from my old position. Not sure if moving and finding a new job is feasible for you, but changing something up might help. I feel your pain and I hope you find a way to make it better. |
