There was a minor car crash in my neighborhood this morning. Nobody was badly hurt that I could see but the car's front, an Acura (I think) was mostly demolished and there were pieces everywhere. As I was crossing the street I looked at the pieces (including the Acura logo which landed intact by the curb) and thought to myself, "Hey, these are all made of cheap plastic. Probably costs 25 cents to make the logo alone" and then it hit me (not a car lol) - why are cars so expensive? Most of the vehicle is made of plastic or fiberglass and the only really valuable part made of anything remotely durable is the motor. Hell, even "luxury" cars are made mostly of plastic - maybe better plastic but still plastic. The parts to final product profit ratio must be astronomical. Then I realized why there are so many car commercials on TV: the automobile industry is probably the most profitable business on the planet. Think about it: every other ad on TV is a car ad. They're trying to get people to buy or lease a car every 6 months. And since people drive everywhere and don't walk anymore, even down to the grocery store, that will keep the motor vehicle fat cats happy for eternity.

but, people want what people want. and as long as people keep buying them, car companies will keep making them and selling them at ridiculous prices. |

A serious question for experienced pet owners (specifically, dogs). My 3-year-old Shih Tzu mix likes to sleep with me. Not necessarily beside me but in different spots on the bed. I know dogs can carry bacteria that can be potentially harmful to humans so I ask: should I stop her from licking my head? I'm balding so she likes to target my bald spot and behind my ears. Tomorrow I have an appointment with an ear specialist to look into a strange sensation of "stuffiness" I've felt in both ears for about 6 weeks now, plus I've had bouts of minor headaches that occur mostly at night but don't last long and are more annoying than painful. Could my dog possibly be causing these issues?

It's hard to describe without giving anything away. A person is discovered in prison that should/shouldn't be there, depending of your perspective. Weird and interesting things start happening, town secrets are exposed etc and in the end I still wasn't sure who to root for. I enjoyed it a lot.

I did laundry yesterday after getting very little sleep. Being in a hurry, I didn't bother to check all the pockets, as I typically do. It wasn't until the machine started that I noticed a wad of papers in the mix. Turns out I washed my jeans with a pack of gum, a handful of Sonic mints, and I believe a bunch of receipts from Big Lots. The paper disintegrated into a terrible mess, the mints appear to have dissolved - the only evidence being the wrappers - and the gum was so old and stale, it seems that most of the pieces simply broke in half. I had to shake out all the laundry to uncover the remaining sticks of gum, and thankfully all the paper lint seems to have come off in the dryer. As far as I know, my clothes miraculously emerged relatively unscathed, but I'm still a bit hesitant to check them thoroughly. The last gum fiasco many years ago didn't fare quite as well, and took a bottle of Goo Gone and days of scraping.

Wondering why upper management at my job is delaying my transfer request. I get it, they want to make sure they have a replacement for me but I really think if it were any one else it would've been approved the second they received it. Add to the fact that I had to literally beg to be cross trained in different jobs here while ive seen guys with less time/experience come in and get promoted on the spot really makes me want to just leave this company and never look back. It's all about favoritism, bust ya a$$ and they just throw more work at you and frankly I'm tired of it.

I think this is going to be one of those cool and overcast Summers in the Northeast this year judging by how cool and overcast it's been so far. We get one of those every 5 or 6 years and we're overdue. Or it could just be a late Summer, with hell-like temps end of July through September. I actually don't mind cool Summer weather. In fact, I prefer it.
