Things are really bad in Italy, arguably worse than China if the latter's numbers are to be believed. By my calculations, the mortality rate in Italy stands around 6.2% vs 3.9% in China. It's no wonder they're trying to lock down parts of the country entirely.

Right now the mortality rate in the US is 3.5%, and I think it will go up from that.

college age right? I've not seen any details on the youngest folk, and specifically the age, who have been diagnosed - but it seems that children appear to be the most resilient

The virus hasn't even hit my state yet but Walmart, Target, Sam's Club are sold out of toilet paper according to the local news and social media.

And grocery stores are charging $40 for a pack of 30 rolls.

If stores are price gouging, report them to the government.

Irish cinema chain Omniplex has announced a cinema seating separation plan, along with other measures, to combat the spread of Coronavirus.

The mortality rate is based only on people that have been tested (and tested positive of course) With the lack of testing kits and the fact that many with the virus experience little or no symptoms and thus would have no inclination to get tested, I would that that the actual mortality rate is much lower. For all we know, there could be millions of people out there who either have or have recovered from the virus.

This x 1,000.

Is this COVID-19 something to be concerned about? Of course. That concern should lead us all to wash our hands, disinfect our work stations and homes, and have more caution overall. Should we panic though? Absolutely not. Panic isn't good for society or for one's individual health. Stress in itself messes with your immune system - which is something that we can't afford right now.

Go about your daily business. Stock up on essentials so that you're not left out in the cold. Beans, rice, Gatorade, Tuna = great, simple, and cheap things to buy.

Hope everyone stays safe. I'm working from home for the foreseeable future but my wife still has to go into her office as a financial planner. She is getting hit with so many calls about people freaking out about their retirement. Again, panic gets you nowhere.

Good call there buddy. Setting yourself up in panic for this virus is not recommended for the sake of people's sanity.

Just this evening. I read a post online about someone doing grocery shopping in a supermarket in Ireland today.

This person was going around fine for most of it up until it came up to observe a woman taking beyond extreme measures when getting her groceries scanned at the till. The lady of in front of this individual in this case went absolutely nuts where she had filled her shopping trolley with 200 plastic bottles of water. I actually struggled with getting my jaw back up off the floor when I read that for the 1st time today as I thought reading that stuff was insane.

I would echo your call with staying safe.

Keeping with your panic levels to a low degree of urgency is good sensible advice to follow during this difficult period.

I hope everyone else follows up with it.

I think it’s absolutely absurd that the government is going after businesses that price gouge. This is a free country where business should be allowed to price any way they want. You don’t like the price, then fine, don’t buy it. No one is forcing you to.

This isn't a "free country", this is a country with laws in place to protect the consumer, I'm sorry you can't see that.

It's sad that you're on the side of businesses that just want to take advantage of people during a potential time of crisis. People that could be poor and can't afford to pay such hikes. If there's no laws in place, then all stores will raise their prices, and then you'd be seeing a loaf of bread for $50. Do you not mind paying $50 for bread, or any other regular item that you could otherwise get dirt cheap before? How are you okay with that?
