It's short-sighted to keep them closed. The vast majority are low risk. Clothing stores, sporting goods, malls. They are usually low density anyway.

The big irony is that the stores that are high density, are the big box stores and food stores that are allowed to stay open, AND sell the non-essential products that their shuttered competitors can't.

They should start looking at the math and seeing that at least in the case of most non-essential businesses, the cure is far worse than the disease.

You obviously agree with those lines & so do I, but those lines are not even my favorite lines in the text. You failed to bold out my favorite lines, so I have no idea why you're responding by reposting that section & bolding those lines out. Anyone with just even basic reading comprehension skills can easily understand what the gist of the text is after reading it, including those self-explanatory lines that you boldly emphasized. I just don't understand the purpose of your post. Were you fearful that someone else might not lock onto what is apparently in your opinion the most relevant lines of text?

Finally got my Trump check yesterday. Cashed it at Walmart, got a couple blus, and ate at Longhorn with a friend. Solid day yesterday. I missed Longhorn.

At what point does it become racist?

If people would obey the rules and have some courtesy things might be a bit better. I don't know what the situation is in LA but when you see places like that restaurant in Colorado that opened against orders and people flooded in with no masks and sat down violating state orders, well then things just get shut down again.

I'm not sure I'd call malls low density. Depends on the store I guess, and the main mall area is low density. But food courts are often pretty packed, and popular mall shops get pretty full and they're usually very small with people packed in pretty close. Bath and Body works is always pretty packed with people on weekends.

Depends on what you mean. It would seem all people are racist to some degree. I do believe it becomes racism when you allow your internal bias to effect your external behavior in a noticeable manner.

I doubt they're gonna open the food courts for a while. When they do there will be fewer tables. And keep in mind that mall traffic isn't going to be what it was before the pandemic because some people will be afraid.

Anyway all stores, low or high density, will likely have reduced capacity controls in place in accordance to the local ordinances (usually 20-50%).

Maybe I've just grown more sensitive over the years, but it seems more people are "saying the quiet part out loud" these days. Lots of people I respect will have an offhand shitty comment. They will of course vehemently deny it. But at what point does saying shitty things make you a shitty person?

I don't think most people are...shitty. I think a lot of people just have misguided notions about others or poor learned behaviors. Unfortunately these things are being amplified right now due to a global crisis.

True, but I'm alluding to post-Trump and we live in a world with limitless information available at our fingertips. Ignorance just seems like a lazy excuse.

Malls have been dying for decades. Before coronavirus you could go to the mall or movie theatres or a restaurant on weekday/night and it would be dead.

Yeah, and this will probably be the death knell for many of them. Will be interesting to see what other uses the areas get converted to.

At the mall in my area, Costco wanted to take over the space that Sears had, and enlarge it by 50%. Then add a 30 pump gas station, even though there are 5 gas stations around the corner.

Didn't go over too well with the neighbors, especially with another Costco 8 miles up the road. Talk of having it converted to condos but the owner is against that. But something has to become of it, because it's really slow compared to what it used to be. Most shops are just clothes and many vacant spaces too.

We have a closed K-mart in a great location here just taking up space. I wish they'd tear it down and give us a Sonic since we don't have one.
