Has there been any changes and/or corrections in the prequel blurays? The only one I keep reading about is the removal of pink tint in TPM.

His "original intentions" that didn't make their way into the movies until 30 years later. Probably because the technology didn't exist to record Darth saying "NO" or have a younger man than Sebastian Shaw playing Anakin as a ghost, amirite?

De Nile ain't just a river in Egypt, as they say!
The technology wasn't sufficient in 1980 to have us stare into the mouth of a horribly obnoxious CG character in Jabba's palace. And making Ewoks blink was virtually impossible too.

I'm not sure the garbage mattes were in the original theaterical run. They were a byproduct of the transfer to video. So while I agree with you, yes, purists shouldn''t complain about mistakes or bad effects, the garbage mattes were only introduced via transfer to video.

Absolutely! If you enjoy film soundtracks and John Williams in particular, A Musical Journey is fabulous. It's a wonderful retelling of the entire 6-episode saga. Maybe someday they'll put out a live version recorded from the Star Wars in concert series that Anthony Daniels has done.

Who said that the changes have anything to do with Lucas' "vision"? It's your camp that always barks "vision" in a demeaning way. As if Lucas had some kind of revelation, as in a religious vision of 6 finished movies that he had to do. That's not how the creative process works, folks. He propably dreamed of a rich universe populated by strange creatures where exciting space-adventures could take place. The rest developed over time and that's okay! He worked hard to achieve that richness - did pretty good in the OT and finally suceeded with the prequel trilogy. If he'd be that obsessed Megalomaniac everyone tries so hard to see in him he could have gone much, much further... He could have replaced Yoda, the Rancor, Jabba, every lightsaber or spacebattle - BUT HE HASN'T DONE THAT. As I said before: The changes are pretty subtle and well thougt out. Because after all, Lucas is the one who loves the OT more than any of us because he put so much imagination and power into its creation.

So apparently the 2006 dvd set with the UOT is now out of print, as well as the standalone releases of those dvds. Uh. Oh......

I'm obviously not claiming to remember every second of two movies I saw thirty+ years ago but I think that's half right. There were matte issues all along (I specifcally remember a very distracting one in Empire) but they were exaggerated by the transfer to video (and by miscalibrated sets).

And to everyone who complains about Anakin being a whiny kid - if he wasn't he wouldn't be a "real" character. If he was the same mean villian even when he was 10, there would be no sympathy for him. Kids are whiny. Everyone complaining about it was whiny at one time. Doesn't anyone understand the idea of a character arc? And what redemption means? Jeez.

He went from being a little jerk to a big jerk to a nice guy the last five minutes of his life. That's not much of an arc.

Lucas' vision has changed over time. He claimed he was going to do more movies after ROTJ. Then he got burned out. his vision has changed. The fact is that millions of people fell in love with the version that he created in 1977-1983. During ROTJ, he burned out and wanted to finish the whole thing with ROTJ. Then his vision changed while he was writing the prequels.

Doesn't make a lick of difference. The movies and story told in 77-83 are their own vision and own story. If he wants to change the movies to fit his 1995 vision, fine go ahead, whatever he owns the movies. But he should do what every other studio and artist has done (with a few minor exceptions) and allow the 77-83 version be told free of the junk that was created from 99-06 t be viewed using MODERN technology (sorry laserdiscs and VHS no longer cut i, nor do hackjob DVDs that would have been criticised in 2002 for lack of basic requirements - i.e. anamorphic video and respectable sound)

I'm stunned that a team of professionals can't seem to fix certain scenes whereas a single guy with some software on his computer took care of everything. Laziness? Apathy? In either case, it seems unprofessional.

More like deceptive. they fix one frame and release those frames to their buddies (digitalbits, etc) that show things fixed for one frame. Those buddies publish it via early reviews and say everything looks great. By the time the real reviews start coming out, the controversy is used to hide the objective facts.

Half of me wants to believe that these mistakes are part of George's vision, like he actually dreamed of a movie that glaring errors and inconsistencies.

... Who the hell am I kidding?
