Sorry, I never seriously looked into it because I didn't understand that one word. And??? Look, it is just another prequel hater, you won't be alone.

Gee and this is oh so productive and informational on a Star Wars thread. The "disaster" happens to be part of the saga that Lucas created and was seen and loved by billions.

Elvis I have to say I'm really digging that painting of the millennium falcon, might have to make that my desktop wallpaper here at work.

I wonder if there is a website somewhere with a bunch more cool paintings like that? I remember having a set of Ralph McQuarrie paintings (prints rather) from around 1980 or so... man those were so awesome. I sold them some years later for like almost nothing, sonsobichez

Those matte paintings of the Falcon are gorgeous. Of course if the scene had been done for the Prequels we would have had a bunch of bird like creatures flying around and cute droids buzzing all around the floor making farting sounds

Beloved? Right.

Do you really think you're impressing anyone with that constant nasty attitude? Someone liking the prequels (or ANY movies) shouldn't be grounds for disrespect. You might want to learn that.

American Graffiti, THX 1138 and Star Wars was one hell of a run.

It was also forty years ago.

But they were done for the OT so instead of cute droids we got cute teddy bears.

The good old days definitely had their moments but even then...

He then went and ruined two of those with pointless CGI. I am sure if the studio would have let him Lucas would have replaced Ron Howard with Jar Jar Binks.

I wouldn't call THX a hit or put it in as part of any "run." No one saw it and, tbh, unless you're into cult movies, it's crap. I remember seeing it during the rerelease and having a constant "WTF" on my face the whole time.

It could also be argued that others saved SW from Lucas. And how much of AG was improvised?

I loved the theatrical cut of THX-1138. It felt claustrophobic and like a really terrible existence. The directors cut opens everything up with added CGI and the less said about those CGI monkey things at the end the better. My favorite thing though is that Lucas spent all the time changing things in the film yet he left "Goodyear" on the tires on the futuristic cars at the end.

We need a save THX-1138 campaign like we have with the despecialized Star Wars films.

He also added a CGI sunset to American Graffiti. Of course it didn't ruin the movie but it's a very strange, unimportant change in my opinion.

You're not even willing to give him Star Wars or American Graffiti?

Seriously???

Sylvester Stallone wrote Rocky. Whatever else we can say about his writing talents, he wrote Rocky.

Lucas wrote and directed one very good movie and two exceptionally good movies. We can talk about his writing and directorial outputs over the subsequent decades but he wrote and directed American Graffiti and freaking Star Wars.

I mean, if you want to mutter 'beginner's luck' or whatever, I guess that's one way to go but me? I gotta give him his due.

Yup, three bona fide American classics right there. But when the success of Star Wars happened the good man who was George Walton Lucas Jr was lost. I mean, the success of Graffiti had already made him a millionaire (thanks to some canny wheeling and dealing in his contract, natch) but Star Wars was something else, it eventually spawned an entire Empire within which Lucas could cocoon himself from the wider filmmaking world.

This is man who, for all his boundless imagination, needs restraints and checks & balances to keep that extraordinary creativity aligned with the practical realities of storytelling. I've always thought that the best art comes from having constraints, I recall you vehemently disagreeing with me on that point before octy but in Lucas' case specifically I think it's eminently true.

I kind of recall that conversation and I think my point there was that unbridled, self-indulgent excess has its place too and I'm pretty okay with the digital tools that allow it.

It was something like that, right?

I'm not completely taking away anything from him. However, there were many, many people involved in Star Wars that helped shape it into what it's become today. It's certainly not on any one person's shoulders, regardless of how badly he wants to re-write history.

Yeah...no. 2. And another. I'd say a majority of Americans have never seen (nevermind HEARD of) THX. i don't know where anyone got this idea in their head that it's a "classic."

Probably from the same place people get the idea that The Conversation or The Last Picture Show or The Long Goodbye are classics despite the fact that most Americans have never heard of them let alone have seen them.

Now, I don't know that I personally would slap the classic sticker on THX 1138 but it's a very good movie and I'm not going to argue with anybody who does think it's a classic.

You may not but I'll gladly do it.

I think the word "classic" is thrown around far too often and definitely shouldn't be applied to something like THX.

I was thinking the same thing when I posted this. I love old poster art as well.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Once again the same posters bringing down any kind of good talk at all.

Indy, stvn1974

I have a great idea. Why not have an official section for the prequel haters. It can be titled The Incomplete Saga that only includes the Theatrical Old Trilogy and everything starting with Force Awakens.

No more prequel hate talk here, and it can get back to actually talking about the movies?

Criticism is one thing, but this bash bash bashing needs to have its only place.

I would bet everything that the talk would be 1000 times more constructive. If you bash Lucas or the Prequels...ban...you can only post in that place.

I know it isn't going to happen, but I can dream can't I?

Now in that place...bash the prequels all you want. I guarantee I will not step foot in there. If it actually happened, I would actually take a special rule. No matter what happens, I am not allowed in there EVER!

Then Indy, Svelge (whatever his name is), ...whatever can just go on and on and on and on without attacking anyone else. Even every one of their supporters can go there. Hell you can even bash me. Call me spam, call me whatever you like, just as long as it isn't in here where real Star Wars talk can take place.
