If they go back to the filmout negative derived from the 2K files and scan that in then the VFX would be in there but you'd have no more than 2K resolution baked in, plus whatever image loss is incurred from the digital to analogue to digital stages you've just gone through so it makes more sense to just cut out those stages altogether and go straight to the 2K files.

TPM will be a 2K upscale just like the other two, should they ever reach 4K UHD.
I’m fine with that. I probably would only watch them once anyway unless they looked marvellous then all bets are off.

What do you think the likelihood of us getting a UHD?

I think we'll get something but as to when, your guess is as good as anyone's.

Phantom Menace actually looks the worst of the original six, it's terribly DNR'd to be 3D ready. Its very ugly. Looks like Goldeneye.

I disagree. I think TPM looks great, thanks to the excellent restoration that they did. And while it has mild DNR due to the 3D release (one should take into account that the movie always had a soft picture to begin with), it's a vast improvement over what we got before.

My only major problem with the set is Attack of the Clones. It has two blantant sequence errors (probably done during the authoring process). Some people thought they were deliberate changes, but the audio breaks give it away.

I hope it gets fixed in the future.

4K Complete Saga in 2020, most likely. Hopefully with original versions of the OT, but that's harder to predict.

Which sequences would those be? I don’t think I’ve heard of this until now.

I had forgotten about this, but I do remember reading it once you brought it up. I'd still take the upscale though.

They were deliberate changes, the music is dialled down so it doesn't jump from cut to cut and is then dialled back up. That indicates premeditation, not an error introduced right at the last second during authoring.

Me too, just as long as they do something about that ****ing DNR.

One is during the speeder chase, when they are passing through the power couplings and the other is when Dooku escapes from the hangar.

If you put the sequences in the correct order, there's no inconsistent volume at all.

Right....because the music has been dialled back.

This is $39.99 right now on Amazon with a new version for $74.40. Anyone know why/what's the difference?

The $39.99 appears to be from a third party seller and at that price probably an import or knock off. The more expensive is the regular version with Vader on the front.

$39.99 seems a bit higher than the "going rate" on eBay for those obvious eBay fakes, i.e. the ones with empty space above Vader's helmet on the front cover.

Of course I wouldn't buy any Star Wars set sight-unseen for that very reason. I'd only consider it if the seller showed the undersides of the discs to prove that they aren't BD-R copies.

I got mine 3rd party seller shipped by amazon only for $39.95 last week. Funny I ordered the 2011 Digibook from Amazon but what I got was the current 2015 one with Vader.

Alright, I've never seen any of the Star Wars movies, but I've seen this set:

for 13 bucks. Would it be a good set to start out with if you're just now trying to watch the three "best" movies in the series?

Yes, that's the original trilogy and the ones that started the phenomenon. Though they are the altered editions (the originals are only on DVD).

But considering the price and having a decent picture quality for the films that is the best set to start out with on blu ray, no?

Yeah, I think they look fine. I'd search ebay for a bootleg of the despecialized editions, personally. But yes. The prequels are pretty good too,not anywhere nears as good as the originals, but the hate is OTT. The sequels are crazy pathetic, however.
