The title is referring to Luke.
All well and good. But the original title means about as much as what any of us would have called it. The official title that GL gave it for release was Return of the Jedi. You are forgetting that Star Wars is a six film saga, and that THE CENTRAL CHARACTER is Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader, not Luke Skywalker. As I said, Return of the Jedi could have a dual meaning in that along with Anakin returning to the light side, Luke also became a Jedi. In that sense, the Jedi made a return. But along with the Jedi themselves returning, Anakin RETURNED from the dark side. He is the Jedi that the title refers to. He is the Jedi the entire saga focuses on. Make whatever you want of the title, as it is really neither here nor there because it does not change the fact that Anakin DID NOT DIE A SITH. You're not redeemed after you're dead. It's too late then. He redeemed himself while he was still alive. He died a Jedi.

Did you ever stop to look at the picture you posted? Who exactly is pictured on it? It's not Luke, is it? Maybe Revenge refers to the action Anakin took against Palpatine for lying to him and using him all those years?

Oh yes, I sure did, and I was thinking the exact same thing too.

He's only releasing one a year. And there's no word if they'll get 3D releases right away or not.

2012 - The Phantom Menace
2013 - Attack Of The Clones
2014 - Revenge Of The Sith
2015 - A New Hope
2016 - The Empire Strikes Back
2017 - Return Of The Jedi

So it'll be at least 2017 if not 2018 before they'll be all out on 3D Blu-Ray, if they come out right away.
How can this be?.. George believes the world is ending in 2012.

If you believe Seth Rogen, who might just be being his usual doofy self and exaggerating a comment.

It's funny, but Vader never looked particularly evil in that picture (to me). It's something I could never put a finger on... I know the mask can't convey feeling, but something about that pose or angle almost seems like he's looking back in contemplation and saying Damn, I've got to make this right.

I didn't know Seth Rogen could put a few words together to make a sentence. My dog has a higher IQ than him.

Or each movie will be released six months after their theater release, which means six months before the next.
And THEN an Ultimate box set.
That wouldn't surprise me from Lucas lol

I don't know. I could see Seth exaggerating something George said... I could also just as easily see Goerge going off a world is ending tangent. I mean, you've got a major stoner & the world's second biggest geek (next to Bill Gates). Who's to say?

Besides, Anakin eventually DOES destroy Darth Sidious... because Qui-Gon had the hots and introduced him to Padme and begat Luke, etc.

At the time of the RotJ's release, none of this was true.

You can retroactively apply that logic to the title, given what Lucas did after the fact. But this wasn't the case when the first three films were conceived, written, and filmed.

I truly believe that part of why Anakin was the chosen one was because of his late training. Had he been trained properly and from the time he should have been, he may have never fallen. Had he not fallen there would have been no return. Now I know there's debate as to what the prophecy actually meant, but I believe that bringing the Force into balance required someone's fall & redemption. I think it has nothing to do with killing Sith, because like it or not, the Force actually has a light & a dark side. It wasn't about balancing power or the leadership, it was about balancing the Force itself. There is no Ying without Yang. Without both sides, there can't be balance.

To the original poster, was there any mention of the 'return to the falcon in the sandstorm' scene from Jedi?

Which makes you wonder, in turn, what the whole plan was here.

They go into exile at the end of RotS (why, exactly?) and the kids are split up. There are no attempts to train either child. Then, when Luke is hand-delivered to the only remaining Jedi in the galaxy -- the guy who planned the exile in the first place -- he doesn't want to train him.

Yes, it was true. GL has always stated that he only made the OT first because he wanted the fact that Luke was Vader's Son to be a revelation to the audience. The basic outline of the entire saga was always centered on Vader. This was common knowledge long before the PT was made. Hell, this was revealed by GL soon after the OT was complete. Just as we can only speculate what GL is doing right at this moment... Because the audience didn't know this prior to Jedi's release doesn't mean it wasn't the case.

Again, that's NOT Luke on the Revenge of the Jeidi poster... It IS Vader. Vader was the Jedi that Returned. Vader was the one taking revenge on Palpatine.

He said he didn't want to train him. More than a little likely it was some reverse psychology there. But even so, "there was another..."

Mostly, though, they were making the best out of a bad situation and rolling with the punches, so they didn't plan the whole thing out any better than Lucas did in '77.

Indeed. He was clearly testing Luke, to see how much patience he had. Same reason for his "Goofy Hermit" act.

Hence his dialogue to Obi-Wan: "I cannot teach him. The boy has no patience."

Though I love the idea of 'Vader taking revenge on ol' Palps' angle on the title, I still disagree that it is referring to Vader.

And who's hands are holding this lightsaber in the release poster of the movie?
