I dunno. They were slaves, but they didn't appear to be mistreated. (Maybe slavery was legal, but beating them wasn't.) They had their own home (which was rather nice for a "slave's home") and Watto wasn't a cruel master. (Just listen to the way he talks to Ani; No abusive language, no threats.) Hell, Lil Ani was able to put together a flippin' droid! His mother was fine with her fate. She was willing to stay. There was no pleading and crying, so why would anybody really give it a second thought? Besides, Anakin was supposed to forget his mother. Going on a mission with Obi-Wan to free her woulda kinda defeated that, don'cha think?

As far as adding anything new to the movies i think he would probably do the following to further connect the two trilogies:

1) Show Watto in the background during the tattoine scenes in ANH.

2) Maybe show Poggle the lesser in ANH on the death star.

3) Have Mas Amedda in ROTJ in the scenes with the emperor possibly replace on of his advisors with him.

4) As far as Jar Jar show a more detailed opening shot of Naboo during the end celebration in ROTJ.

Even though these characters secondary it would be nice to see where they are at during the OT.

It was a stupid throwaway line in the movie anyway, I hadn't really thought about it until the other day when it was mentioned. Anakin's never finished a race until the Jedi show up so the chances he won't make it back are quite high.

I make one assumption and KA-BOOM!

Watto was finished by Ep. III by number four he was probably homeless or dead. The Emperor got rid of all the non-humans as quick as possible after he rose to power, he had all the most powerful ones assassinated by Darth Vader, Poggle was one of them.

Yeah i could see that happening to Watto and as far as the emperor i remember reading that he got rid of all non-humans but still that is messed up i mean Poggle helped design the death star and Mas Amedda was his right hand man during the PT.

Or maybe it is Greedo Lucas decided that Greedo didn't die after all (though the dialog reflects that - expect that to change in the next edition).

Eh, I don't really think much needs to be added in these respects. Enough PT stuff was brought over in 2004 to crud-up the OT that we really don't need more of it (especially anything with Jar Jar... just hearing him at the end of ROTJ is bad enough).

Most of those other characters were pretty minor anyway in the grand scheme of things. It's not like we really need to know what happened to them. Besides, you really couldn't go further than inserting them into the background (which really only tells us that they are still alive and where they are at that time, not what they've gone through since the end of the PT to the time of the OT). Since nothing was ever filmed with the original OT actors interacting with these PT characters (as opposed to the Jabba scene that was filmed and added back into ANH), there's really no way for us to know much about what happened to them or what's going on with them anyway.

The most I'm hoping for is that the lightsaber effects in the OT are redone, and the coloring issues of the 2004 versions are corrected (and maybe a little bit of the CGI on Jabba in ANH being redone to look even better).

I think Mas Amedda continued to be by Palpatines side but 18-20 years later? He's probably retired, running an antique shop somewhere....

I think this is one of the biggest short comings of the PT. It doesn't show how brutal a regime the Empire actually is. We get the 'hint' that the Clone Troops betrayed the Wookies on Ksykk (sp?) in the brief scene in ROTS where the scout walkers are searching for survivors. But that was it.

Lucas could have gone a LOT farther and added a few scenes as part of Order 66 showing the Wookie enslavement, betrayal of all of his supporters in the senate (no way he should have had any alien presence around him just before the fight with Yoda), and perhaps show Clone Troopers killing the cloners on Kamino/taking over other planets. Yes, we get the idea they are killing off the Jedi, which is good, but Lucas missed showing how that impacts the rest of the galaxy. Domino effect if you will. Would have had a greater impact I think showing things going from bad to worse for the rest of the galaxy (i.e. those ugly ass Vampire looking dudes on the planet Greivous is killed were held hostage by the Seperatists, why not show the Clone Troop turning on them as well?)

My only other issue with the PT that really irks me is that the Clone Troops have color showing rank on their uniforms which doesn't match up AT ALL with the OT. HUGE continuity error there. It makes complete sense to have colors show rank/camo on Clone Troop uniforms, but to think the Empire would just be like "Well, we don't need that anymore when fighting the rebellion." 30 or 20 years later is kind of silly. To be honest, the color scheme of rank is a good idea and should have stayed with just the Droid army. The lack of color, black/white, are absolutes and only the Sith think that way. Would have been more realistic to just start off with plain black and white uniforms so I wouldnt have to ask: Why didn't the Scout Troops in Jedi not have Camo?

I'm sure they decided to tone down elements but the Clone Wars is a war to me at least which doesn't really affect people. During the TPM the Trade Federation attack Naboo it would have been nice to see some kind of bombing from space etc. Coruscant is only affected by Anakin crashing a space ship. The people go about their day to day business as if nothing of consequence is happening. While I'm sure people will say during wartime life does indeed go on but not to show any affect is a slight misjudgement.

I still would have prefered Darth Vader to rise during Episode II and to have Episode III show the Empire at its inception and the Jedi on the run. At the end Obi-Wan could have fought Vader and beaten him causing his injuries.

This is actually a big criticism in one of the RLM reviews. With everything focusing on Robots fighting clones and only a handful of individuals really invested in the war, does any of this really matter or in any way effect the general population of the planets involved? It certainly doesn't seem to based on what we see.

I agree with you. The problem of the PT is that it is largly bloodless (characters exist just to die, and the Clone/Droid armies seem to be video game characters). It just appears that the events we are seeing in the films have zero impact anywhere else. It appears everyone is going about their daily business with NO concerns at all.

ROTS starts off with a amazing battle above Corucusant, yet you would have NO IDEA anything was happening if you looked at it from the perspective of people on the planet. Palpatine's entourage is there to greet him after Anakin lands the crashing ship and they seem to have zero concern about anything that is still going on in their very own atmosphere.

Funny thing, a deleted scene (in the book) from ANH had Luke watching the battle with the blockade runner vs. the Star Destroyer with a pair of bionculars. Funny no one on Curocusant would be doing the same thing with a full scale war above their heads...

I laughed at Plinkett pointing out the Average Joe "on his way to work" as Anakin went to town at the Jedi Temple. So true.

While Harry Plinketts reviews are often insiteful this point I think was stupid. America has been fighting wars for 150 years and with the exception of 9/11 and Pearl Harbor our shoars have been mostly unaffected. Its the same for Coresuant in the Star Wars Universe. Its the central planet in the Republic and would be more tightly guarded than any. It only makes sense that a citizen on Coresuent would be unaffected

My opinion of Plinkett is his reviews are very funny and point out many genuine story problems. However other times he is overly nitpicky. I really don't understand why he sees JJ Abrams Star Trek as good while thinking everything in the Star Wars prequels is bad cause they share many of the same problems. Weak forced romance, overrelance on effects spectical, villians with convoluted motives, some ridiclous plot cowinsidences. Personally I enjoyed both despite the flaws but I don't understand why people who hate the Star Wars prequels can like JJ Abrams Star Trek.

6 Months until release, and the Complete Saga is already listed in 1,200+ collections on this site.... not bad for a fairly pricey set.
