Also Samsara apparently has an 8K master and Gone Girl has a 5K one, but neither of those have UHD's yet.

Check your sources on Samsara, I’d bet it’s a 8K scan and 2K master for that Bluray. I believe I read in a thread here that the scan wasn’t kept and got discarded. Try search terms ‘Samsara scan’ on the Forums here. I’m on my phone and it’s clunky for me on this device.

A few were more recently mastered at 8K from their 8K scan. They are 2001 A Space Odyssey, My Fair Lady, and now West Side Story (1961) mastered in 8K for NHK. They have been shown in 8K on the NHK 8K channel. Only there.

Someday they may be available for purchase in some form. The BDA does not currently support some kind of 8K disc, nor would current triple-layer discs support 8K.

The 2.39:1 2160p HEVC/H.265 Ultra HD HDR10/Dolby Vision picture, reviewed on a Sony Bravia Z9D 4K Ultra HD HDR display, was photographed digitally using the Arri Alexa Mini camera system and sourced from a 2K (not 4K) master Digital Intermediate format. This was produced as a 3D conversion by Stereo D but no 3D Blu-ray was provided for review.

That's strange, because later in the same paragraph the reviewer says "one of the best native 4K Ultra presentation thus far".
