This was my understanding as well. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

The site reviews released in the last few days were my source on the 4K masters.
Can anyone reach out to JK about confirmation of this part of these reviews?

A 4k master can come from a 2k upscale. This being Disney, I doubt they paid to have all the effects for television shows rendered at true 4k resolution or have the files compiled as true 4k for a 100% 4k finish. They may not have even been rendered at a theatrical grade 2k resolution either, more like 1080p to save on rendering time, storage, and costs.

This thread is for true 4k (or higher) source material.

This little dig on your part is beneath you.

Look on the previous page in this thread, I have 33 successful submissions, and I do understand the parameters of this thread.

If the site reviewer is writing that movies are true 4K masters (no upscaling or 2K DI's are referenced in the reviews) then this needs to be brought to his attention.

No it's not lol.

There are more than a handful of films on that list that were shot below 4K but have 4K masters.

Blade Runner 2049
Sicaro
Skyfall

three films that are instantly on the list.

This thread is for true 4k (or higher) source material.
The budget on those D+ shows is insane, we're not talking about "television shows" as if these were one-camera sitcoms filmed on a potato. They have literal feature film-level budgets (WandaVision cost $225M!) and have extensive post-production carried out on them to full archival standards. And yes, they're shot in and finished out at 4K, including HDR, whether that includes all 4K VFX as well is unclear, but given how soooo many of the films on this very list have 2K (or lower!) VFX either upscaled into their original DIs or were output to film to be cut into the OG negative then it's a moo point.

Don't forget, Netflix have been mandating 4K finishing (including VFX!) for years for their homegrown shows regardless of budget, and do you know why streamers have been doing it for so long while movies may still struggle? You literally only need one deliverable for streaming. For cinema, and especially for big tentpole pictures with all sorts of 'premium large format' options, you need a whole bunch of different versions to suit different screens (regular, IMAX, Dobly, plus 3D for all three in some cases) and getting all those options graded, conformed and QC'd takes time. Streaming? Fuggedaboutit. Just deliver your graded DV master inc SDR trims and that's it. It's not a miracle, it's just a time saver, so that time and money can be spent on 4K finishing instead. WandaVision was even Marvel's first "HDR first" project, that is to say that HDR was intended as the primary deliverable so all on-set monitoring, dailies viewing and finishing was done in HDR, it wasn't something that had to be bolted on afterwards.

This piece on the VFX of the Obi-Wan series https://www.awn.com/vfxworld/image-e...breakdown-reel has someone literally say "Once the look and feel felt right, we introduced a level of fidelity to Jabiim that would do justice to the show’s 4K resolution". So we have a confirmation of 4K finishing in general plus VFX being rendered out to such resolution if the shot/scene demands it (as the hectic nature of a lot of action shots means that the temporal loss is such that <4K rez is fine).

So, yeah. Best not to assume things, eh?
