Best you could hope for is a UHD upscale from the 2K master that utilises those precious extra 128 horizontal pixels (or a mere 78 in the case of flat 1.85) but even so, going from actual 2K to UHD isn't directly proportional so the potential is there for scaling artefacts. I'd rather they upscaled 2K to 4K 'like for like' and then crop the master down to UHD res.

the better question is, how WASN'T Spectre shot? seems like they used everything but an iPhone to shoot the thing.

IMDb is wrong. I read an interview where the cinematographer was talking about his process and said that the whole film was shot on anamorphic film (except the opening long shot, which was done in Super 35 and some of the boat scenes at the end were done with the Alexa 65). IMDb is as reliable as Wikipedia. Anyone can edit them.

Also, Skyfall is a native 4K film. The source wasn't but it was still mastered in that resolution, due to the large pixels in the Alexa's sensor, which contain more color and dynamic range than any other digital camera, which is why it's a popular camera to use.

How so, poya? It's more accurate than people may realise, I saw a post from someone who worked on the show on a Bond forum and he confirmed that they used 8/35 (VistaVision) for some plates, Alexa 65 for the boat chase, regular Alexa for some aerials etc. You'd be surprised what a hodge podge of formats go into even a 'film' production these days. Digital gets used a lot for aerial scenes in particular because the digital 'mags' can record for a lot longer than the average film mag, ergo they can stay up in the air longer and capture more footage.

Then why wasn't that discussed in the interview? The interviewer asked Hoyte what cameras he used and he didn't mention another Alexa nor Vistavision. This was from American Cinematographer Magazine.

Yes. I was wondering when a thread like this was going to pop up. I don't plan on double dipping at all for uhd, unless it was filmed in 4k. If the movies good enough, I might go for a 2k movie remastered at 4k. But I am happy enough with my 400+ blus.

There's more to UHD than whether it was made in 4K or not. Even those filmed in 2K will benefit from the WCG, HDR, etc.
