I was very unimpressed with X-Men DOFP whereas Titanic's conversion knocked my socks off. Edge of Tomorrow's conversion is awesome too. I know you don't wanna hear it, but there we are.

Update: The thread Is 4k Blu-ray dying, or waiting to be born? answers a lot of questions. Native 4K movies will be released when the studios feel comfortable it will be a success. They'll make tons of money on the upscales for now as sales of UHD displays and players continue to grow.Personally, I'm going to wait 6 months or more. In the IMDB,I guess we are assuming disc manufacturers will use the listed, best sources under Technical Specs for UHD 4K versions. For example, The Revenent:
Cinematographic Process ARRIRAW (3.4K) (6.5K) (source format) Digital Intermediate (4K) (master format) Panavision (Anamorphic) Redcode RAW (6K) (source format) (some scenes) But, for The Martian, 2K DI is shown as the Master, meaning it's basically an upscale? ![]() Cinematographic Process Digital Intermediate (2K) (master format) H.264 (4K) (source format) (some shots) Redcode RAW (6K) (also dual-strip 3-D) (source format) Last edited by rjg77vett; 12-16-2016 at 12:43 AM. |

So much processing was involved after the upscale. Frame by frame. Maybe it works well for The Martian. I haven't seen the 4K version. We can't trust other disc makers to be so diligent. Being a recent film, I wonder why the master is not 4K in the first place. It's all confusing. No wonder folks turn to religion.

That Martian blurb is literally retarded and must have come from a marketing shill. It's the equivalent of a photographer upscaling a shot in Photoshop and then proceeding to do the retouching.

WB's is one of the ones doing UHD at 4000 nits vs 1000 IIRC, which can be problematic. It is the whole problem with the process.
And Suicide Squad on Blu looked great at times, others not so much. And that is on a pro cal'd OLED. |

That is what I said. How can the bluray look better PQ-wise than the UHD?

Because UHD/HDR is the wild west and studios are kinda doing what the hell they want. If you want an honest answer.
Its been all over the place for me which is why I have stopped using HDR. |
