Alien: Covenant was shot on an Alexa XT; if it has a 4K master, it'll be an upscale.

If shot Open Gate then it'll be a 3.4K source, so that's near as damn it, no?

True.

Maybe the intentions of this thread would be more accurately reflected if the title were changed to something like "List of UHDs That Utilize Greater Than 2K Masters".

It's looking very unlikely because all the DCPs are 2k. And it doesn't have 3D as an excuse this time because all DCPs are 2D.

Speaking of which, so much for Ridley Scott's pronouncement that he would never shoot a movie in 2D again.

If something's finished in 4K then I'm happy enough with that classification, no matter what it was shot on or what it's limited to at source e.g. VFX, but the idea of a 'greater than 2K master' UHD thread might be an idea for the ones that were finished in an intermediate resolution like Life's 3.2K or Jurassic World's 2.4K (dependant on a UHD release of the latter, obvs).

mpi scanned unforgiven's original camera negative at 4k, followed by extensive and meticulous color correction in both sdr and hdr by two of the facility's senior colorists. Side-by-side tests were conducted using a freshly minted answer print to satisfy all involved that the final product represents the best possible reproduction of the film screened for audiences in 1992. The finished 4k master was reviewed and approved by clint eastwood and his team.

2k DI, or maybe 2.1k. From the June American Cinematographer:

Did "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" get a 4k scan? Would it then also be getting a 4k mastered Blu-Ray?

Since this is a Disney movie will Disney be releasing this movie on a 4K BluRay? I do not believe Disney has released any of their movies on 4K BluRays yet.
