Well, by the interpretation I describe, his statement about working at 2K would be that mention. Of course, this is just one interpretation and, as you say, there are many possible and his comments are not definitive.

By the "for safety" interpretation, it could just as well be a proxy.

If the directors and studios are more interested in presenting their theatrical experience on disk, are they not concerned when one of our reviewers says:

"As with Creed, which was also finished on a 2K digital intermediate, the UHD presentation of In the Heart of the Sea offers no meaningful improvement in resolution or detail. However, HDR encoding has subtly enhanced contrast and brightness so that numerous scenes gain in definition and immediacy."

On another note, am I expecting too much from native4k?

The Reverent
This one was a no-brainer. The WOW factor started immediately.

Close Encounters of the Third Kind
This one, although good, did not give me the WOW experience as The Reverent. Is that because it was filmed in 1977? (Maybe someone can help me by interpreting both reviews)

What's more with Close Encounters of the Third Kind, the main menu really threw be for a loop by asking which version I wanted to watch in 4k native. The choice was:

Original Theatrical
Special Edition
Directors Cut

All versions miss something. I chose the Theatrical version after debating it for 20 minutes.

(I watched both these Native 4ks on a 65" LG Oled. I'm not sure if I should have re-calibrated differently for Close Encounters, but it's "okay" )

Always Director's Cut for Close Encounters.

I've been on the fence about CEoTK. What's the difference between the three versions?

Spielberg reordered some sequences, deleted some and added others and this final cut ends like the theatrical cut. The Special Edition (the first Spielberg recut back in the early 80's) goes inside the mothership and spoils the magic and was dictated by the studio, but is mostly the same as the director's cut.

Holy sh**. We won’t get everything this year, but if the studio’s keep this up for the second half, 2018 will be gangbusters compared to 17.

I have already set aside my Paramount BDs for sale, but I'll be damned if I am going to part with the Ultimate Matrix BD set until the other films are released on UHD and that's assuming they have all the extras. I did do the Warner HD DVD trade in on that set and got the BD set for about $30 back in the day.
