[QUOTE=pentatonic;8253576]I don't doubt at all, it is getting harder and harder for them to own, they need 2 very good jobs as a minimum. The only reason I was asking is if I look at my 2 tech nephews, their tech expenses radically changed when they went on their own. And I've noticed that in general if it's not game related, cell related, net access, it kinda skips a few steps down in their list of priorities. And owning the media in hard copy, while still somewhat important, but more and more just buy the d/l, no need to be at Gamestop at 12:00, it's pre downloaded and just needs activation.[/

By net access, do you mean the likes of netflix etc..?

Oops, don't know why I didn't write ISPs, but they do like the upper tiers packages.

Rollout in 2014.

But for me the upgrade cycle won't begin until 2015.

Don't get me wrong, I love blu ray discs. But I really doubt expanding blu ray is where the studios are heading.

I think they will ALWAYS need physical discs to sell. Think "Holiday trading season" and birthdays and other events where a physical product in hand would be more desirable than a gift card.

I could be wrong. I hope I am not wrong. People complained at the loss of space on CD's for artwork, because album art is a (commercial) art form when we shifted from records to CD's in the late 80's early 90's.

There are people out there who love collectors editions and special collectible editions of movies. I can't see that going away.

LOL. Early hardware is just that, first generation. Beware when you buy first generation. Don't be a pioneer.

It will be interesting how fast 8K or UHD takes to get into the marketplace. If 4K is going to be available sometime in the home 2016 to 2020, theaters will have to have something to get people to use their establishments.

Many small apartments and older homes do not have space for a 50" TV.

Autostereoscopic display technology is proposed to be perfected about 2016, allowing for glasses free 3-D displays.

CES member companies need products, ie hardware to sell to consumers, and content providing companies need product to ship, to SELL to consumers.

Utter tripe in my opinion. 50 inch TVs are not even that big anymore. It's not like the old days with the CRT sets. Most people can fit a 42-47 in their bedroom these days. Even my older relatives have a large tv now.

Keep in mind that just because a bigger TV will "fit" (because it's going on a wall and there's almost always plenty of wall space), doesn't mean that the average person will necessarily want a bigger TV (either for aesthetics or viewing preference). Although average TV sizes are continuing to grow, they will be constrained by the four walls it will be viewed. Not everybody is comfortable sitting inside a 1.5:1 seating distance to display size ratio.

Of course 4K is perfect for those with HT rooms and those who do enjoy large displays, and getting that "immersive" experience akin to sitting in the first few rows of a movie theater.
