What really broke my heart was not so much that we lost the Colts because I figured with time and given the football spirit of the city we could/would eventually get a new team, but the worse was he also took the uniforms, colors and team logo from us too . I still get twinges when I watch the Indianapolis ‘Colts’ play on television as the colors and logo is permanently imprinted in my memory.

LCD TV Panel Shipments Forecasted to Decrease by Record 7 Percent in 2020 to Total 265 Million

For the first time since 2011, worldwide LCD TV panel shipments are expected to decline in 2020, falling by 7 percent to total 265 million, according to IHS Markit | Technology, now a part of Informa Tech.

The 7 percent decrease represents the largest annual decline in the history of the LCD-TV industry.

The 2020 decline will come after two consecutive years of market stagnation with shipments at 289 million units in 2018 and 284 million in 2019. Market growth stopped during those years despite fab capacity expansions at Gen 10.5 and Gen 8.6 TFT-LCD facilities in China. The cessation of growth also defied the growing demand for larger LCD TV panels sized 55-inches and above.

The slower demand for LCD TV sets and the oversupply of LCD TV panels have accelerated price erosion, forcing manufacturers to curb production. Many suppliers have taken a more conservative approach by reducing fab utilization starting in mid-2019 onward and initiating more aggressive fab restructuring plans.

Yeah, I remember when that happened too. Was a dark day. Speaking of dark, that video of you and Justin Biebs on a Tijuana bender floating around the dark web is epic. I'm impressed, PM. Pretty flexible for a guy your age.

Konka Makes $214M Investment In MicroLED

The Konka Group, which recently announced its plans for a U.S. television brand re-launch at CES 2020 next month, announced Thursday its intention to be an industry leader in developing and building the Micro LED market by making a $214 million R&D investment in the emerging technology.

As part of the effort, Konka said has formed a joint venture in Micro LED development with Chongqing Liangshan Industrial Investment Co., Ltd., resulting in a total investment of more than $365 million for the initiative. The funds will be used to purchase Micro LED related machinery/ equipment, research and development, and increase production and sales of Micro LED related products, the companies announced.

This joint venture includes the establishment of what Konka calls “a state-of-the-art institute that will carry out research and development of this cutting-edge display technology.”

Konka said that its R&D investments increased by 14.74% compared with the same period in 2018. Other investments have been made in technologies including 8K, AIOT and 5G integration.

“Konka is a technology company investing in multiple growth platforms such as 8K, AIOT and 5G.” said Scott Ramirez, Konka Group’s U.S. senior VP, sales and marketing. “This significant investment in Micro LED development shows our commitment to the technology and our belief that Micro LED will become the leading technology for ultra-high-quality consumer television.”

Admittedly stupid question:

If you redeem a 4K code in 4K, can you still watch it on Vudu, even without a 4K tv?

...does it just look like a regular HD transfer?

Regarding science -
In a nutshell, every time you boost spatial resolution, e.g. 1080 -> 4K -> 8K, for fast action sports in order to not lose ground with clarity of the action (sure static and wide establishing shots will look great in 4K or 8K without a compensatory increase in the temporal resolution), scientifically, one is compelled to double the frame rate, i.e. 1080/60 -> 4k/120 -> 8K/240, and with the later progressive frame rate (greater than 120 fps, be it either 240fps or 300fps –

that super high frame rate (of indisputable merit for fast action sports, alternatively for cinematic narrative fiction content <- that remains a matter of taste), becoming included as a standard never came to pass in BT.2020 because -

I also see Top Gun: Maverick not only being of good old-fashioned entertainment value/escapism after a hard day at work or school, but also maybe potentially of recruitment value as it can’t hurt since we really need more Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force pilots given the DoD is experiencing a significant pilot shortage.

I view this being especially important in these times in which we live when it seems that only the career foreign service officers, intelligence services and armed military services are cognizant of the true threat(s) to our, my country , well-being….
