It's based on the same HD master as the original Blu-ray but with some debris reduction and a new AVC encode, so it will look similar.
you're right, my bad i was confusing T2 with T1...there was a discussion about it in another thread and i forgot they were referring to the 1st terminator.

Thanks for the input. So would you say, honestly, that it'll be worth the Blu double-dip? I do not care about commemorative packaging or any of that; for me the Terminator series is all about simply kicks$$ movies. Pretty much the only commemorative series that I'd be interested in buying is Star Wars.

Might just stick with my jap steel as the UK steel for the movie on its on dont look that good with that CG skull artwork. So will probs just buy it when its in a normal case and cheaper.
Fortunately, my mother won't be reading this post. Otherwise, she would be very upset that someone is using such a derogatory term when referring to our Japanese heritage. I made the mistake of referring to myself as a Jap in front of her in 10th grade. A mistake I haven't made twice.

if you already own the current one on blu and care nothing for special features or additional cuts of the movie, you don't need to spend the extra money. the new blu will include multiple cuts of the movie on one disc plus over 8hrs over special features. it's up to you to decide if the difference in PQ and AQ is worth $23 wait until it comes out and see what other members think.

What about the audio? Is there any upgrade over the current Blu-Ray? Or is video the only thing getting a touch up?

This answer from a Kinowelt rep was posted @ Cinefacts.de (though I doubt a lot of people here can read german )

And if that's the case, anyone who buys this has expendable income. The extra 5 discs are a joke.

I don't. I think it's extra crap that I don't need.

If they put the discs in a regular case, I'd be more inclined. However, as I stated on another forum, there's absolutely no need for so many discs on this release.

Hey guys,

I would like to add that Van Ling recently spilled the beans on a lot of things at Home Theater Forum in his thread here.

He all but confirms the existence (to me no less!) of the extended secret cut of T2 on the Skynet Edition.

He mentions that he is indeed working on a new T1 bluray release.

I asked how good T1 looks after Lowry cleans up and I hope he will be able comment.

Excellent news! Thanks for the info! Lowry does incredible restorations. I can only imagine how incredible Terminator will look!

Nice. Thanks for the input. It looks like a couple others have chimed in a bit, too, regarding the quality of the new one. I'm thinking I might go ahead and buy this Skynet version, then off my "regular" version to my parents or in-laws (whoever goes Blu first; probably the in-laws). Then I could (at least attempt to) justify the double-dip. It'll be my first Blu DD; I've done it with a few DVD-to-Blu already (Cars, Madagascar 2, Transformers), and I'll likely do it for Wall-E and of course Star Wars.

I recently sold off my Terminator 1,2,and 3 in ancticipation of these new re-releases. 1 and 2 should be alot better and now I'm just hoping Warner will get on the ball and re-release the 3rd one. Hopefully with a new transfer and this time have lossless audio.

I believe it was already mentioned in this thread but Sony holds the international rights and there's a release coming from them this summer. You can bet there will be uncompressed (or, at least, lossless) sound.

Damn these re-releases! I watched The Terminator a few weeks ago, and while I wasn't exactly blown away by its picture quality, it was at least what I consider "much better than DVD or VHS."

I almost wish I didn't know there were new versions coming out.

Well, technically T3 isn't a re-release. It's just never been released internationally in some countries.
